Acronis Backup & Restore 11 on Ubuntu Kernel 3.0.0

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I run into the following problem when trying to install ABR11 on Ubuntu 11.10 with kernel 3.0.0

Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Setup failed to build
kernel modules. View '/var/log/trueimage-setup.log' and
/var/lib/dkms/snapapi/0.7.60/build/make.log' for error
messages.

I know what the problem is... The snapapi module is not compatible with this kernel. I don't know however, how to create a new snapapi module or where I can get a pre-compiled version.

Can someone help me out with this?

Hello Martin,

Thank you for posting. I will definitely help you.

I would recommend to take a look at the following KB articles and if you run into any issues you can always contact our Support team with this report -

 - Creating the SNAPAPI Module in Acronis Backup Software for Linux

 - Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Server for Linux: Installation

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Anton,

I've already consulted these pages but they cannot help me. These problem I'm facing is that Linux Kernel 3.0 is incompatible with snapapi26 (which is quite logical cause it's for 2.6 kernels). So what I need is snapapi30 or some alternative.

Because kernel 3.0 is fairly new, there isn't a lot of information available from other users but I'm curious if Acronis Backup & Restore 2011 has been tested on this new kernel and if it's already compatible or not.

Hopefully there are users out there that can tell me how they got ABR11 running on kernel 3.0 or perhaps I'm not the only one that ran into this problem.

Regards,

Martin

Let me take up the topic because I have the exact problem like Martin. I'm using Opensuse 12.1 with Kernel 3.1.0-1.2. The Acronis package tries to compile the 2.4'er Kernel snapapi, of course without sucess and the same error message as mentioned above. So I though I'm clever and changed the line "BUILD_EXCLUSIVE_KERNEL" to "BUILD_EXCLUSIVE_KERNEL="^3.*.*"" The build process started but stopped with the following error message:

compilation terminated.
make: *** [snapapi.o] Fehler 1

So, exists there a .tar.gz archieve for Kernel 3.x in the meantime or any other workaround? I don't want to blow up my ~1.000€ investment in you (normally) great software, but this time you are a little bit behind.

Thanks for help in advance!

Regards, Axel

Hi Alex and Martin,

Thank you for your comments.

As far as we're in support concerned, officially ABR11 wasn't tested on 3.0 kernel, so we cannot guarantee that it will work (and apparently it doesn't). I'll get in touch with the Development team regarding this question, and will get backup to you as soon as I have any update on the matter (hopefully today/tomorrow).

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience faced with the software.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thank you.

Hi all,

I just received the reply from the Developers:

3.0 kernel support is already added to the ABR Update 1 which is currently in production. Unfortunately we don't have any exact ETA on its release date, but we expect it to be out in Q1-Q2 2012.

Thank you for understanding.
