Thread needs solution

some basic questions about Acronis vmware support:
1. does acronis support lan-less backup for vmware?
2. does acronis support vmware CBT(change block tracking)
3. can i use vStorage API Data Protection to backup VMs reside on ESX prior to vSphere 4, say ESX 3.5.x.

Hello,

Thank you for taking time to contact us. My name is Eugene Glazyrin and I am a senior expert engineer working for Acronis Inc. I will be glad to address your questions. Let me please address them one-by-one.

1) Connection to virtual network is still necessary for Acronis ESX appliance to create backups. First of all, management of virtual appliance is performed via network (port 9876). Secondly, backups are to be saved either on network share or on Acronis Centralized vault. A virtual adapter will be automatically installed as soon as Acronis ESX appliance is deployed.

2) In fact, Acronis ESX appliance is creating guest VM snapshots using vStrorage API and basically VMware libraries are used on lower level when our backups are created. I have specifically asked the development group about the usage of CBT in the product and I will update the thread as soon as I've got a response from them;

3) Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 ESX appliance supports VMware ESX/ESXi starting from version 3.5 update 2. Support of versions prior to 3.5 Update 2 is not planned at the moment.

Please let me know if there are any other questions to us and we will be glad to assist. Thank you!

I have consulted with our development group and they confirmed that change block tracking is not supported by the current version of ESX appliance. Support may be added in one of the future versions of Acronis Backup & Recovery.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

I spent half a day trying to figure this out only to find out that it's not supported. But thanks for clarifying this.
