Acronis B&R 10 Workstation

Thread needs solution

Hello,

i plan to use Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Workstation to backup my PGP encrypted drive (excluding C:\PGPWDE01 of course), by doing a sector by sector copy of it. Will Backup & Recovery 10 Workstation recognize empty sectors and will compression be used ?

If i want to backup a 1TB drive with approx 300GB data on it, what is the estimated size of the images, given a compress ratio of 3:1 ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best regards,

aurikus

Andreas,

Sector by sector copy does not use compression so the image will be full size. Does ABR10 not see the encrypted drive ?

Hello Andreas and Colin!

Thank you for your comments, we really appreciate it!

Colin is right, the sector by sector copy doesn't use compression, and the image size will be equal to the hard drive size.

Please also note that there are certain compatibility issues with between Acronis and ecnryption software. Please find all the details in this KB article. It's named as "True Image" , but it related to Acronis Backup and Recovery as well.

Thank you!

Hello, according to PGP / Symantec (https://pgp.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/693) they recommend using either Acronis True Image Workstation 9.1 or Acronis True Image 7.0.

Would one of these fulfill my needs ?

Thanks in advance for your reply / help.

Best regards, Andreas

Dear Andreas,

Thank you for your question!

I regret to inform you that the versions specified are very outdated, and there's no way to obtain them. However I would like to assure you that the latest versions of Acronis Backup and Recovery will suit your needs as ATI Workstation 9.1 and Acronis True Image 7.0 would suit, the scenario and result would be absolutely the same.

We don't say that it won't work. We're just trying to warn you that due to the fact that access to the hard drive is encrypted, we cannot guarantee that our SnapAPI will access the drive properly, and there will be no issues. Recommended ATI Workstation 9.1 could also cause issues we're talking about.

Let me know if you have any additional concerns or questions, I will be glad to help.

Thank you.
