"Acronis Managed Machine Service is unavailable" Warning
I downloaded and installed the trial version of the backup managment tool and used it to backup my system and data files onto an external drive yesterday. This morning when I turned on my PC, I get a beep and pop-up every few seconds of the tray monitor saying that the managed service is unavailable; and the console fails to run -"Cannot connect to 'localhost', with some code numbers and messages detailed (Codes 11,337,731 / 196,610 / 65,520 )
What do I need to do to clear these messages?

Thanks for advice.
I downloaded the Backup & Recovery tool. But as it was causing annoyance, I tried removing the console program using Control Panel-Add/Remove Programs and at the end of the uninstall my PC did a blue screen crash - repeatedly after power-off/power-on until I booted up in safe mode and restored to just prior to the installation - now I have no Acronis and my PC is happy, and I may leave it that way!
When installing, I just let it do its own thing, copying the serial number from the download page; but I probably won't try again until I know more about Acronis and what it does and doesn't do.

Hi @ all
I have a similar problem with Acronis Advanced Workstation 10. I try to restore a Image on a Workstation. After the restore was successful I can´t connect to the Agent with the Acronis- Console. The error massage told me that the Acronis remote service is not running. But that´s false ... the service is still running. After reinstallation of the agent it works. This is a bad solution because the backup- and recovery- history is also deleted.
Have anyone a solution or a fix.
Many thanks

Hello Mario,
Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]
To resolve the issue you should have restarted the services:
* Go to Start -> Run -> services.msc
* Right-click on the following Acronis services, and click on Restart:
- Acronis Managed Machine Service;
- Acronis Remote Agent;
- Acronis Scheduler2 Service.
Thank you.

I get the same problem (see screnshot),
I installed B&R Workstation 10.0 with UR as local admin on my workstation (PC specs below) allowing the app to create it's own account, but that didn't seem to work. It will reliably blue screen when I start the Acronis Managed Machine Service. However, to be fair, I had assumed that it was because I had previously installed and uninstalled B&R Server 10.0 with UR (also creating it's own account - I now have the local accounts: "Acronis Agen User", "Acronis Agent User 2", "__acro_subst_user__" and "__acro_subst_user_2"). I suspect that uninstalling the software then cleaning up the additional accounts and any other residual Acrionis files (before reinstalling) would probably solve this issue.
(NB. I haven't tried this because it is not really an issue for me - I don't need that service for what I'm doing).
By the way, (as a quick fix) to stop my computer from blue screening on reboot, I booted into Safe Mode and re-disabled the three services:
- Acronis Managed Machine Service;
- Acronis Remote Agent;
- Acronis Scheduler2 Service.
after doing that it would reboot and start fine.
Hope that gives you a few ideas at least,
Jarrad.

I make sure Acronis Managed Machine Service is running.
I rt clk on Local Machine in Management Console, chose Connect.
Console connects, then flashes to Operation Progress box: "waiting to reconnect".
I go back to Services, Acronis Managed Machine Service is stopped. I restart, Management Console briefly reconnects, then flashes to Operation Progress box: "waiting to reconnect".
Then loops.
What should I do?

Hi Oleg ... Hi All
thanks for the posts ... but it doesn´t work ... The services already running, a restart of the mentioned services didn´t work. It seem´s to be very strange. I tried to rebuild the problem. I made a new image from the PC after this was done i started a restore. After the restore the reconnect to the console was succesful. Then i made a second image from the same PC and tried to restore from the second image. -> i cann´t connect to the console. The error massage say´s that the service are not running. That´s false they are running and a restart of this service doesn´t help. Is it possible that the image is corrupt? I hope that someone (Acronis) can help us or fix this bug/problem. Such errors are not acceptable. We would like to buy 800 licenses for out clients in the production- centers but if there is no solution for the mentioned problem we must search for a other tool.
Thank in advanced

Hi, same problem of David Ullathorne..... on 2 PC, with fresh installation of XP Pro English with SP3 !
So, Acronis, have you a fix for this problem ?
Some problem has been also encountered on the deinstallation procedure: the uninstaller need a file *.sys that I have got from another pc.

reinstalled 1 pc: on boot, the pc hang and I receive a blue screen.
To start Windows, I need to start before on Safe mode, disable the 3 acronis service and reboot...
When WIndows has restarted, I tried to rerun only the Acronis Manage Machine Service: blue screen !
So, on the blue screen I see the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error message.
Any idea ?

I had similar problems on 10287 build, after update to 11105 those problems where gone but because i had other i had to donwgrade to 10287 again (only the agent) and my connection errors returned. So I came up with an workaround (which is working for now).
To properly use Acronis product you need a user that has "log on as service" rights, after looking in system services I found out that Acronis Remote Agent is running as Local Service. I forced the service to run as the user that has the "log on as service" rights and now can with no father problems connect both locally and remotely to with menagment console.

Hi, we have founded the problem: the problem has present on two pc HP dc5850 microtower and the crash has been caused by the card reader module included on this model of HP. Disconnected this module, the 2 pc don't crash and acronis BR works fine...
Maybe this can help acronis to resolve this conflict problem...

well, unfortunately there is no option to perform a restart on a service that haven't been started. whenever i try to start it, the service stops working again in less than 5 seconds. unfortunately, this solution is no good.

KB Article says "can be ignored." It's WRONG!
The release notes at http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/support/updates/changes.html?p=5404
says ""Acronis Managed Machine service is unavailable" popup message after system boot " has been fixed in build 11345. IT IS NOT.
I'm running on Windows 7 Professional (all up-to-date), and this morning it started. I'm getting constant error messages in the Notification area, and any attempt to restart the service fails within seconds.
Furthermore, your KB article at http://kb.acronis.com/content/2847 says this can be "safely ignored." That's WRONG. It cannot be ignored.
Without this task, all I can get when launching is "cannot connect to 'localhost'".

A Repair install did nothing to solve the problem.
Navigating directly to the mms.exe file yields another error message:

Now I'm ANGRY!
I fully uninstalled the entire AB&R 10.0.11345 product, and searched for and deleted every Acronis file reference and registry entry.
I then reinstalled. And, before I even rebooted (which is apparently no longer required) the same "Acronis Managed Machine Service is unavailable" is now being produced.
I stuck with no way to back up this computer, now.
What are you doing about this, Acronis?

I have now lost three days' work from this error. Was able to roll back to an image made three days ago.
No, I am not willing to spend MY time doing YOUR debugging job. This assumption on Acronis' part that my time is worth nothing, and so you can make interminable demands that I set up tests to create diagnostic information files for you simply speaks to the fact that
A. You do not have adequate Quality Assurance facilities yourself, and
B. Your software has no instrinsic ability to report these errors, with meaningful, specific information from within the Acronis products.

And, to answer your question: No, waiting overnight did not solve the problem. That workaround doesn't work.

I have the same error on a SBS 2008 x64. Uninstalling, registry cleaning and reinstalling doesn't bring back the managed machine service to be running. Any solutions?
I'm using 11345.

I too am suffering from this problem on my SBS 2008 x 64 setup.
I have tried all of the "suggestions" that acronis have made but the pop up will not go away.
I am becoming very unhappy with the overall quality of acronis software of late. Especially when I consider the price that I am paying to use such buggy software.
Since installing this version late last year I have had one problem after the other with it. At this point in time I am no longer prepared to recommend Acronis products to my customers.
Please can someone at acronis get their finger out and release a fix that addresses this issue.

Same problem. Windows 2008 x64 Enteprise. At first I thought it had something to do with enabling clusting and installing SQL 2008. But today I found two servers that have nothing installed on them yet (no clustering or SQL) but now the Managed Machine Service is no longer able to connect. The Servers were running fine for about 2-3 weeks and then whamo they just start failing for no reason.
I found you can downgrade the B&R license back to Echo licenses, so I ripped out B&R and installed Echo using the downgraded licenses. The only problem I had was that the uninstall of B&R did not remove VSS providers from the registry which causes any VSS process to failed. I fixed that my manually removing the registery entries.

Problem solved by the german support professionals.
Had to uninstall with revo uninstaller then abr_cleanup.exe and then reinstalling.
Not nice but works

One reason why "Acronis Managed Machine Service is unavailable" will show up is when the user account name or password that Acronis is using to connect is changed (this just happened to me when my domain account password expired and I couldn't get the service to restart because of a login failure but I didn't want to uninstall the software).
To fix this access the services console (e.g. in Windows XP right click My Computer -> Manage -> Services and Applications -> Services), right-click on the Acronis Managed Machine Service, left-click Properties, left-click the Log On tab, and then set the appropriate username and password and click OK.

Here is a detailed solution to the problem (for my particular problem):
Acronis Secure Zone had filled up and was not deleting older archives that I had thought it would do. When a job would run, it would hang because the SZ was full. This created a very large log file in the "\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMS\LogEvents" and/or "\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMS\LogContexts" folder (I forget which one). This huge log file causes the MMS service to hang up and give you the "Cannot connect to 'localhost'" error. Deleting this log file allows the service to start normally, but eventually the problem will happen again if the the SZ problem is not fixed.
The overall cause of my problem was several things:
1) My job option "Error handling" was set to "Do not show messages and dialog boxes while processing (silent mode)"
2) My job option "Clean up archive" was set to "When there is insuffiecent space while backing up"
This combination causes it to fail. Apparently there is a "bug" that if you are running with Error Handling set to silent mode, it never kicks off a notification to the Clean up archive task and hence the job just sits sitting filling up the log file and eventually killing the MMS service. Alternatively, you can leave silent mode on but set the "Clean up archive" to "Use retention rules" which uses a scheduled task to clean the archive instead of relying on a notfication from the job.
I hope this helps others. I found this solution by gathering information from a few posts other people had made and eventually calling and working with Acronis Tier-2 support.

Hello, i also face a same problem here, may i know what is the solution for this?
- Log in to post comments

Acronis Machine Managed Service Unavailable - The CAUSE
===========================================
- Windows is unable to appropriately connect to Acronis Machine Service, hence the reported error.
- Windows is unable to register the created Acronis User as a user with log on as a service RIGHTS.
- Some Windows' files are not available for modification during installation.
- In case you ignore the default user, the user to be used must be an Administrator with the above rights.
SOLUTION
========
- Go to SERVICES and restart The affected service until the error message disappears
- If you're using a normal Windows Admin user, right click the affected service and SELECT properties
- click the LOG ON tab and check "This account" (specify your system Admin account using the full domain syntax)
- put the current system Admin password and click APPLY
- You will get a message telling you that the Account has been granted the Log On As A Service right.
- STOP and RESTART the service or
- Do a Reboot
NOTE
====
1. You will have to go through the procedure above every time you change your Admin password. I think that's the idea behind the dedicated default Acronis Agent User account suggested during Installation.
2. You may have to do several reboot in order to get the service started the first time.
3. Ensure the appropriate port is opened if you're using any third party FIREWALL.
- Log in to post comments

Here is the answer:
1. Programs > Administrative Tools > Services.
2. Right click on "Acronis Managed Service" and Properties
3. Click on the Log On tab.
4. Enter your new password and click "Apply" and "OK"
- Log in to post comments

now ok already, but i didnt do anything, i just try to restart all related service but still can not, so leave it a while and later go and see, able to connect.

I also downloaded and installed the trial version of "Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Update 3 (10.0.12708)". I'm running
it on my SBS2008-x64 Server.
When I want to connect to the local Machine through the "Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Console" or the Desktop-Shortcut "Manage local machine", i get the following error:
Fehler: Kann nicht verbinden zu 'localhost'.
(Error: Cannot connect to 'localhost'.)

I've tried to resolve the problem getting through the guide (http://kb.acronis.com/content/10245?nocache=1) , wich told me to control if the service is running and well configured.
Now, as you can see from my error-message, I'm using the german version. As I followed the checklist to fix the problem I came to the point, where I should check the "Acronis Managed Machine Service". Now on my german SBS2008 there is no so called service. The service is running as "Acronis Management Server Service", wich executes "C:\Program Files (x86)\Acronis\AMS\ManagementServer.exe".
I'm only able to connect to the Management Server, doing it through the "Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Console", clicking on "Connect to a Management Server" and using "localhost". I'f I'm clicking on the default shortcut I'm getting the same error-message.
P.S: I've let the Acronis-Installer create its own service-accounts during the Installation and the Start/Stop/Restart function of the Services are working without errors.
P.P.S: Sorry for my bad english, I hope you can understand me ;)

Although this isn't the correct thing to do, try changing the service to use your log on rather than the system log on.
However, this might stop others on the network accessing ABR10 and or accessign agents on another machine.

It should be. If it's not there, it either failed to install or you accidentally selected not to install it (it's possible to uncheck this item in 'advanced' version installer). Its executable is by default installed in "C:\Program Files\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\mms.exe"
You can either extract it (AcronisAgentWindows.msi) and install separately or check that you selected this item (see attach)

I set the service to manual. I created a batch file to ( net start MMS ) then created a shortcut to Runas Administrator and placed the shortcut in the startup all user folder. No more error just see the flash of the batch file.
MMS is the service name for the Acronis service causing the issue.

Hi Nelson
I found your post very helpful thanks. I have had problems with MMS becoming unresponsive after a backup archive on USB becomes full. In my case, there is no cleanup or consolidation, but having read your post I found that there was a large log file
00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
in
"\ProgramData\Acronis\BackupAndRecovery\MMS\LogEvents"
Deleting this file enabled MMS to become controllable through services.msc, and I was able to restart
- Acronis Managed Machine Service;
- Acronis Remote Agent;
- Acronis Scheduler2 Service.
and then start the backup job.
Acronis is clearly not good at handling error conditions if you have to take this sort of action to rectify what must be a common error condition (running out of media space).

Hello everyone,
I implemented Acronis Windows Server 2012 R2, the storage I have presented have been of a SAN that is on the same subnet and the disks were presented to the server by SCSI initiator, and this runs smoothly until we restart the server, when reboot the server I disconnect all storage units and my server throws error "Manage Acronis Machine Service is Unavailable" and I no longer connect more storage disks and neither does the acronis me, thought that the problem was and drivers I decided to reinstall the OS, I made it and reassemble all the Acronis with the SAN and when restarting the same thing happened to me, then I went down to O, S Windows Server Standard 2008 R2 and the same thing happened to me.
This software really be so expensive I think is too unstable in my company have not managed to have more than 15 days running.
I appreciate any help we can provide as this issue has become critical

Diego,
What build and version of AB are you using?
Have you waited about 5 minutes to see if the service restarts itself?
Try, setting the service to delayed start in Services.msc and see if things improve.
- Log in to post comments

Hi Colin,
We are using version 11.5, I waited more than 5 minutes to see if things improve but it is not, the server becomes unmanageable locks with any instruction to run it, I formatted several times and have reassembled all services and operate properly until reboot, no harm if all
- Log in to post comments

Diego,
Have you tried the delayed start of option for the service?
Which build of 11.5 are you using and are all the components at the same build level?

After trying at least 10 ways to fix this, I'm ditching this software. I feel ripped off, to say the least, after using the old version since 2011. It's not worth the time or hassle to get it working. If anyone has a suggestion for a product that actually functions feel free to email me tim_orerockon at yahoo.

After upgrading from Win7 to Win10 Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 started with an error message "Acronis Managed Machine Service is unavailable"
A manually start of the Service also didn't work and brought up the Error 1075 „The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion“
The solution for that problem is. There was a service since Win XP and Server 2003 called „ProtectedStorage“ which doesn’t exist anymore under Windows 10 and the dependency will not let you start Acronis Managed Machine Service. So open regedit -> F3-seach -> select Data under search options -> and search for ProtectedStorage open the found Name DependOnService and delete the ProtectedStorage entry at all found entry’s -> close regedit -> restart your machine and everything will work as usual.
I hope this help to solve your problem!
By the way, this also applies to Windows Server 2012

Hello Peter,
Thank you for your posting! Please be aware, that Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 is a rather old product and does not support Windows 10 officially, so we can not guarantee the flawless functioning. If you want to protect this system, you may want to install an upgrade to Acronis Backup 11.5.
Thank you,
