Advanced Server Virtual Edition: Disk Management in trial for Linux?

Thread needs solution

Hello,

our company work only with Linux Servers and plan to buy the Advanced Server Virtual Edition.
So I downloaded the trial version. Sadly in the Backup Configuration for an SLES 11 under Disk Management is only a hint, that the current Disk Management Tool doesn't support Linux.
Is that only a problem in the trial version, or is it realy not possible to backup a whole Linux Disk?

Thanks

M. Schmidt

Hello Mathias,

Thank you for your interest in [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

I will explain the reason of problem you have experienced.

The issue is not caused by the trial limitations. The program has the full functionality (and 15-day trial period) under Windows and Linux and the following limitations under Acronis Bootable Media:

- Acronis Disk Director Lite is available, but there is no option to commit the changes;

- Only the recovery functionality is available;

- Acronis Universal Restore is not available.

Actually, Acronis Disk Director Lite is a partitioning software, Acronis Disk Director Lite is a tool for preparing a machine disk/volume configuration for recovering the volume images saved by the Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 software. You can run Acronis Disk Director Lite under Windows or start it from a bootable media. You are unable to perform the partitioning  operations of your Linux server with the Windows part of the program, but bootable media can perform the operations on ReiserFS or Ext3 file systems (please see the list of the supported file systems).

About the backup operations.

Do you run Linux on physical machines or in a virtual host environment?

If you run Linux on physical machines, you should install Agent for Linux onto it. Please see this article on how to compile SnapAPi module.

If you run Linux in a virtual host environment, you can also install Agent for Linux to the virtual machine or use Agent for ESX/ESXi to backup virtual machines residing on a VMware ESX or ESXi virtualization server. The agent allows for backing up virtual machines from the host without having to install agents on each virtual machine.
