Any reason I couldn't do a "trial restore" of a backup archive to an Acronis "Secure Zone"?

Thread needs solution

In the program documentation concerning validating backup archives I've occasionally come across the suggestion that if you want to be 100% sure that a backup archive is good try a "test restore" to an extra empty hard drive.

Would this be possible using the "Try and Decide" feature? (I'm talking about an OS image backup, not file-based). If I created a secure zone large enough could this act the same as another hard drive?

I haven't read of anyone doing this. It would be like pushing the True Image software "to the edge" so to speak. Personally I wouldn't even think of doing this. There are enough problems one can run into just doing what the software is supposed to do.
If you cannot do a restore to a spare hard drive, the next best thing is to boot with the Rescue CD and do a validate on the Image.

OK, I steered clear of that notion...much as I am likely to push the edge of the envelope using software I don't think messing with backups like that is too wise -- so here's what I've done instead: I restored the backup archive to an empty partition to test.

(To clarify things; I am doing this on a dual boot system and the primary drive/OS is NOT the one I backed up or are testing the TIB of, it is a seperate OS on a seperate disk)

SO... how do I boot to my "trial" restore? Is it as simple as changing the boot.ini on my primary drive to point to my "restored" partition?
