I am thinking to purchase one of those new Areca ARC-1880 controllers and wonder whether I will be able to restore my system image to a boot RAID array on that controller.

We do not expect any issues with this RAID controller, so everything should be just fine. Please note though that in case you're going to restore the image onto it, you will need to add its drivers to the image during the recovery process. For this you will need Acronis Universal Restore. I can see from your account that you have Acronis Backup and Recovery Workstation, so the version you need is here.

Acronis Universal Restore is a special add-on for corporate versions of Acronis Backup and Recovery that allows you to restore your images to dissimilar hardware. In order to use it, please install it over the main product and recreate a bootable media (Tools -> Create Bootable Rescue Media).

I would advise you to take a look at the Acronis Universal Restore Guide with the step-by-step screenshots and detailed instructions - you may find it useful.
