Automatic numbering/naming of backups in TI Home 2010?
I like to do a full daily backup (not incremental). Is there a way to get TI to automatically add something like 1,2,3, etc after the backup filename so it doesn't overwrite the previous day's backup with the same filename? I like to keep several "backup" backups and periodically delete the oldest ones to save space. Basically, if I get a virus or something, I don't want it to keep overwriting the last good pre-virus (or whatever) backup because it has the same name. Manually renaming each backup with the date is tedious. Thanks!

Thanks, but all that looks rather involved. I just want to do daily backups like I'm doing and have them automatically renamed something unique each time in the same folder on an external HD so I don't have to manually rename them with a date or something. Is this really that easy?

Yes, Chain2Gen is easier than it looks. You know a car manual. It has lots of pages but you get in, turn the ignition on, put the car in gear and go. So the manual is to tell you all the details.
Yes, Chain2Gen is easy to implement. Download and read it. If you still have questions, don't hesitate to ask. But don't just skim the instructions--read them including the File_inventory listing.
One thing though, it you only want full backups, each will be in its own folder with only the one file. You will have a series of folders with only the one backup inside. For example: if you want to keep 6 different backups, then you would have six folder names set0 to set5

Thanks for the help! I'll give it a whirl over the holiday weekend. :) Too bad Acronis couldn't have implemented this SIMPLE feature themselves. Save file name....save file name...OOPS? Theres a file with the same name of, say, "Bfile"? Then save as Bfile(1), Bfile(2), etc. Or, even better, with a date/time stamp. Ain't that hard...

Forgot to ask... Is there anyway to automatically have those individual backup folders go under one master folder?

Yes, you can control the folder name for the backup. Then, inside the folder, you will have folders named set0, set1, set2, set3, set4, etc for each the number of folder you wish to retain. The actual name of the backup file (your_choice-.tib) is under your control but the you must point the backup so Acronis will place the backup inside the the set0 folder wherever you locate it. This is all shown in the Chain2gen.pdf file.
