Backup and Restoration from software raid to hardware raid

Thread needs solution

I'm struggling with a problem right now. I have a system that was using software fake raid 10 and we purchased an adaptec 6405 to get rid of the software raid and use a hardware raid setup like we should. Now, I have taken an image of the raided drives and verified the integrity of the .tib file, all is well.

Now, I try to restore said image to the new hardware raid 10 setup volume and it fails everytime. I have tried to create a rescue boot disc for this specific system, but everytime I try to inject the required .inf files into the burn I get the same error time in and time out: "E00180012: Error code: 0x180012" and then the burn fails. I am using Backup and Recovery 10 with True Image 10.

The only success I have found is to get the software raid 10 data onto one large drive, and then tried to take another image of the standalone drive and restore it to the hardware raid 10 volume, still no luck.

So how can I take an image of the standalone drive now and restore it to the hardware raid 10 volume? I've been wracking my mind trying everything I can think of to get this resolved. So if anyone knows how I can get this off my bench I would greatly appreciate some help. Thank you in advance.

Hi Shane

I would suggest a read of the following section of the manual to get a better understanding of Dynamic volumes (Software RAID): http://www.acronis.com/support/documentation/ABR11/index.html#12668.html

First off ensure you have the latest build/release of Acronis, the manual I sent you was from the current ABR11 version of the product and I would suggest using the latest version of BootCD when performing the recovery.

Secondly, I noticed you did not mention if you had the universal restore option purchased and active in your BootCD? Please ensure you have the UR option active and during the recovery you will need to specify the hardware RAID card drivers that Windows will need to talk to the new card. Also keep in mind the drivers required by Acronis need to match your server OS. For example if your server is Windows 2003 32bit you need to ensure the drivers you provide during the recovery/UR phase are for Windows 2003 32bit else you will run into issues and more than likely see the BSOD when Windows tired to load.

Thirdly, ensure you have setup your hardware RAID before you start the recovery process, so once you boot from the Acronis boot CD you should NOT see individual disks but a single (if you created one volume) large volume that you will need to recover to.

Good Luck!
