Backup failing - "paused for unknown reason"

Thread needs solution

I'm getting consistent backup failures. Even when the backup completes it's taking far longer than I'm used to with prior versions of the Acronis backup products. The software is running on Windows 7 64-bit with 4 GB or RAM and the volumes being backed up.

I've seen, what seem to be, similar issues in other posts but nothing directly on point.

The product and version is: Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 (build 10.0.11345).

The following error appears in the log:

Type: Error
Date and time: 2/25/2010 07:26:12
Backup plan: Backup 1/20/2010 12:33:28
Task: Daily backup
Code: 66,038(0x101F6)
Module: 1

Message:
Operation with partition '0-0' was terminated.
Details:
Failed to create volume snapshot.

Error code: 0x70021
Tag: 0xDF81DA2C74EC508E
Failed to set snapshot bitmap.

Error code: 0x10C44E

Not locked.

Error code: 0x9
code = 3,758,096,392 (0xE0000008)

Any help would be appreciated. I'm used to being able to depend on Acronis backup actually working and if the prior version worked on Windows 7 I'd revert to it in a heartbeat.

Hello John Schmid,

Thank you for posting. I will definitely help you with this.

At the moment it is not clear why this issue is occurring. Can you please check the default backup options when you are creating a backup plan, look for  Volume Shadow Copy Service and check if it is enabled when your backup fails. If it is, can you disable this option and restart the backup. Does the backup fail with the same or different error message?

If the backup runs successfully without Volume Shadow Copy Service enabled, I suggest to apply the solution from this article, then try to re-run the backup with Volume Shadow Copy Service enabled.

If the error message is the same when creating a backup with Volume Shadow Copy Service disabled, I would recommend checking this Knowledge Base article and increase the default relative size as well as change the storage path of the file.

For your convenience, I have attached a screenshot of the Volume Shadow Copy Service option so that you can locate it easier.

If none of the solutions work, can you please submit a support request with this report, let me know of the case number so that I can assist you.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Hello,

VSS was not enabled and the backup isn't failing all the time but it fails often enough to concern me.

Using Echo Workstation I can't remember when I had a backup failure while with B&R 10 I get failures several times a month.

I did have "multi-volume snapshots" enabled. I'll try disabling that since it's not really necessary for this workstation.

Hello John Schmid,

Thank you for replying.

I am very sorry about the failed backups, I would like to help you with this. As you mentioned, you get failures several times a month. Do all of these failures have the same error message?

Just in case, I would still recommend to download and apply the SnapApi update. It is currently version 512. I shall send you a private message with the unique download link that I will generate for you.

Please let me know if you continue running into issues or have any other questions.

Thank you.
