Backup from old HD to same HD

Thread needs solution

Hi, I would like to know which product to use and if this can be done!

I am using Windows Vista and I want to get rid of vista..... I want to make a clean install of Windows 7 onto the same HD... I am using an external HD to do this. Is this possible ?

Any Ideas
Thank You, Ed

Hello Ed,

Actually, you don't need any third party software to perform a clean install Windows 7. You should just start the installation of the OS, and the appropriate Wizard will offer you to wipe the destination partition.

If you mean that you want to transfer your applications to the new system, please note that it is impossible to restore the applications in itself from the backup file to another OS. You can only restore the specified files and folders (for example documents). You can use Acronis True Image Home 2010 for these purposes (Windows 7 is supported by this version).

I may recommend you to install a trial version in order to make sure that the program runs flawless for you.

You can save the archive onto the external hard drive, perform the clean install of the new OS, install Acronis True Image Home 2010 and recover the necessary data files.

Thank you.
