Backup over internet

Thread needs solution

Does the Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Advanced Server support or allow for clients to be internet based and still be backed up without a VPN connection to my corporate office? Something like using SSL from the internet into my server on port 443.....or is VPN the only way?

Hello Wade Bartholomew,

Thank you for posting your question. I will be glad to assist you.

In order for our software to work, you will need to have the 9876 and SMB ports open. Can you please verify this and kindly get back to me so that I can continue assisting you. You can also check this article for additional information regarding ports usage.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Let me backup a bit. What we're looking at doing is offering a service for our customers to backup their server to our datacenter over the internet (HTTP, HTTPS, or FTP). I guess we would need a client product on their server to create the image and then somehow get it over to our datacenter. What product or products am I looking at testing and eventually purchasing to implement such a solution?

Hello Wade,

I appreciate you getting back to me.

Thank you for clarifying this a bit, at the moment our software can backup to FTP. We do have plans to release in the near future a program that will allow the backups to be saved remotely, but unfortunately I do not have any details on this.

If you are thinking to install a client product on the server, depending on how you plan to use it, you can either try Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Server for Windows or the Advanced Server. The key difference between them, is that the standalone part backs up the machine locally while the advanced version has remote operations and other additional applications such as centralized vaults and deduplication. You can check this article for additional information. Both of them can create backups to ftp. For more detailed information on the product you can check this datasheet.

You are more then welcome to download a trial version and test it. The trial version is fully functional for 15 days with some limitations, you can read more about them here, and we offer 30 day free trial technical support.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
