Backup plans and tasks

Thread needs solution

Hi all

I am new to Acronis Backup&Recovery 11 and I need some help and tips on creating a new backup task that looks something like this:

Full backup every sunday
Diff. backup every other day

Backups that are older than 14 days are deleted so that I always have two full backups and
the rest are diff. backups. Validation of backups only on full backup every sunday.

I want to be able to have one backup task but all new machines are added to this backup task
automatically. But i want to be able to have a diffrent time of backup for each machine. I don´t
want to overload my network so each machine's backup task should run 30mins later.

Is this possible with only one backup task? Or does each machine need a separate backup task?
How does yours backup schedule look like? Maybe you have better solutions?

I have a separate job for each machine (in my case, VM). I'm not sure if you can have one task, for all your machines. Besides, if you do manage to put all your machines into one backup task, and you experience a failure, it makes troubleshooting a whole lot messier.

I use incrementals instead of differentials, but I think differentials are fine.

Like you, I stagger start times. I don't think it is a big issue even if it wasn't staggered, because some of my machines are bigger than others, and there are definitely times when more than one job is running at the same time - on Friday nights when we do full backups, there are times when several backups are running simultaneously.

You can set your tasks so that older backups are automatically deleted. Play around with the "older than x days" option to see what works best for you.

There is an option in scheduler settings in centralized backup plan to distribute start time randomly (within a given time frame). So you can create backup plan for some static or dynamic group, and when a new machine is added to it, a plan will be deployed to it with some random start time. Full and diff scheduling that you need can be done using 'custom' backup scheme.
