Backup to Tape (LTO3) slow ?!
Hi there,
we are just evaluating the new Acronis Backup & Recovery Advanced Server, but we got so big problems with writing to Tape. Basically Acronis is writing to tape, but the speed is very slow. Normally (with other Backupsoftware) we get around 40-60MB/s on same server / os. But Acronis only manages to get around 5-8MB/s ! That's far to slow for our purpose. We already got a newer snapapi (0.7.47) but the problem stays. With this performance Acronis isn't a suitable alternative for us.
Here are our system specs:
CentOS 4.6 (Kernel 2.6.9-67)
snapapi 0.7.47 / Backup&Recovery Linux Agent 11105
Quantum LTO3 SCSI Device (/dev/nst0)
Any Hints or suggestions ?

Hi !
We tried to copy several single files to LTO3 and speed varies between 26MB/s and 5MB/s (after some more testing today).
We also want to setup some kind of disk-to-disk-to-tape solution. First all Acronis agents copy their full-images to a network-storage, after that those images are transfered onto tape as the second step. We got the latest image on disk an all others on tape (2week rotation of full image-backup tapes).
Right now we are using Acronis 9.1 for taking the full-images of every server and yosemite to transfer them onto tape.
Of Course we could use some kind of shell-script to write the images onto tape, but having some nice central gui for managing all backup stuff is a fine thing. therefore we are thought about Acronis Backup&Recovery Advanced Server to take over all tasks including writing onto LTO3.
But those really slow write-performance is really bad for our plan... Maybe we have to think about another software or even just use that "ugly" shellscript ;-)

Hello Markus23,
Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]
To find the exact reason of the issue we need to localize the issue. Could you please place the backup archive onto another than tape directory and compare the performance? Please let us know the results.
We should troubleshoot the issue using the latest build of the program. We have released a new build of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.0 (build #11133). Please download and install the latest build.
Thank you.

Hi.
We are trying Acronis Backup & recovery for windows server build 11133, with Windows server 2003 SP 2 and Quantum LTO-3 SCSI. We get the same performance 6-7 Mb/s. Has anybody solved this? We are also thinking of using Acronis but not with this performance.
