"Block bitmap is corrupted" error message

Thread needs solution

Hi all the people,

I am using ABR 11 in VMWare 4 environment.
I was trying to backup newly created Ubuntu machine, using GFS scheme.
I got the following error every time (no matter if the task is run manually or by schedule):

ProtectCommand: Failed to execute the command.

Machine snapshots are taken with no problems.
There are other ubuntu machines on the same host with no backup errors.

Please, give any suggestions to help resolve the issue.

I guess Acronis cannot read some filesystem data from the virtual machine.

I am able to make backup using sector-by-sector mode, but this is not the solution as it occupies too much space.

Hello Robert,

Thank you for your posting! Please check the following article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/36993

Thank you,

Dear Ekaterina,

Thank you for your feedback.
I've read this article before, but it applies to Windows Server guest operating system.

My guest VM is Ubuntu linux and another difference is that I have set sector-by-sector mode manually; it is not automatically switched after normal backup fails.

Thank you,
Robert

Hello Robert,

Could you please check the file system of the VM with fsck:

1. Open a connection to the Linux machine

2. Take system down to runlevel one # init 1

3. Unmount filesystem or the device # umount /dev/sda3 (this example assumes that the device name is /dev/sda3)

4. Run fsck on the device # fsck -t ext3 /dev/sda3 (this example is for ext3 file system. Make sure that it is proper one. If you specify the ext2 parameter for the ext3 file system the system could become even more damaged) If you do not know your file system type then typing mount command will display file system type. # mount

5. Once fsck finished, remount the file system: # mount /dev/sda3

6. Go to multiuser mode, enter: # init 3

I would also suggest to install a trial version of Acronis Backup Advanced directly into VM and check if the backup is successfull with the Agent installed within the gast OS of the VM.

Thank you,

Ekaterina,

I was checking VM filesystem yesterday.
As I was unable to run fsck on mounted "root" partition, I have run "sudo touch /forcefsck" command and rebooted the machine.
During boot-up I saw fsck was checking the disk, I haven't noticed any errors related to filesystem.

Then I checked the /var/log/upstart/mountall.log file (hope this is the rigth location for fsck logs ?) and found messages like this:
fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
/dev/sda1: clean, 1403456/3055616 files, 10594757/12206848 blocks
/dev/sda2: clean, 307/48960 files, 75550/195584 blocks

I am not 100% sure, but it seems the filesystem is OK.

Then I deselected the "sector-by-sector" backup option in Acronis, but again had the error "Block bitmap is corrupted" after backup was run.

Please, advise, what else could I do to resolve this ?

Hello Robert,

Thank you for cooperation! If the file system seems to be ok, I would suggest to create a support ticket for deeper investigation.

Thank you,

Hello Ekaterina,

My customer's support program for the ABR 11 is expired - is there any other option to get help form Acronis ?
