Is a Bootable Media disk exclusive to the machine on which it was created?

Thread needs solution

Is a Bootable Media disk exclusive to the machine on which it was created?

I backed up Machine 1 and created a bootable media? I then replaced the HDD with a new one and successfully used the Bootable Media disk to restore to that drive.

I then backed up Machine 2, an entirely different machine (different hardware, OS etc.) . Then I tried to use the disk created on Machine 1 to restore Machine 2. No success!

Hence the question.

Thanks!

Hello Don,

A bootable media is not bound to the hardware, however, it might contain not all necessary drivers to boot correctly on all types of devices. We recommend creating a WinPE-based bootable media, that has better support for a variety of drivers and therefore better compatibility with different hardware.

Would you also post the error message you're getting or describe what happens when you attempt to restore the second machine.

Thank you!

Thank you Ekaterina for your reply.

That would probably explain what we were seeing. I had loaned the "Machine 1" disk to a coworker trying to restore "Machine 2". It is a Win XP machine and following the restore it will not boot correctly. It makes it to the XP splash screen then shuts down.

Being new to Acronis we are learning as we go. Thanks for your help!

Best Regards!
