B&R10 Restore to VM

Thread needs solution

I must be missing something.
We have B&R10 for Windows Server - standalone, and also Advanced Server Virtual.
I want to backup one of our non-virtual servers while it's off, convert it to a VM, and power it on in our virtual (ESX) environment.
So, I restored the backup to VM, then I import those files vmx and vmdk into the datastore and try to import to a new VM into inventory and it does, but says 'invalid' next to it.
Acronis, please tell me the best way to do this.

Hi Jeff,

I'm sure I did a test some time ago and it worked! I converted a non-virtual server to work with ESXi. What I did was copy the converted image to the datastore and then setup a new VM, then pointed the hard drive to the image file.

That then booted up fine... I did kill it tho, tried to format the system and recover again.... this did not go to plan as the VM crashed and was 100% non-functional after that. Had to delete the VM. :-P

Well, I hope that has helped.

I did some testing and what appears to happen is that the Acronis conversion is a VM Workstation. I used the VMWare converter which made necessary changes and imported it into my virtual environment. And that worked fine. What I don't understand is why Acronis would not have this feature already.
