Bu/Recovery 10 shuts down my notebook during bare-metal backup

Thread needs solution

I have an HP Pavilion Dv7-1133d that I've just upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium. I want to take a snapshot of the configuration using Acronis Back Restore 10.0.11639 boot disk, before it gets boogered up through normal use. Every time I've tried, the machine spontaneously shuts down with no warning, leaving a partially created backup file. My backup media is a SimpleTech 300G USB drive with its own power source.
I've tried the following, all of which have helped somewhat, but I still can't get past 90% completion:
- changing compression from High to normal
- setting CPU usage to max 20%
- laying the laptop on its side to increase air flow
- having a fan blow air onto the bottom of the notebook during backup

This machine has never shut down in Windows or any other app or utility -- only Acronis. I suspect that Windows is able to control the fan and temp but Linux, as configured by Acronis, is not.

Can anybody suggest a fix that I haven't tried?
No, I haven't tried Bu/Recovery 11. I don't want to spend any more money with Acronis until I know their products work.

Hello Wiley-One,

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here! I understand your concern, and will be glad to assist you.

Unfortunately due to the lack of investigation information it's hard to identify the cause of the problem, so we will need some additional diagnostic data. Please gather Acronis Linux Report from the media you're using, submit a case with the information attached, and let us know its number.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Hi Wiley-One, I agree with Yana, it would be best to submit a support ticket with Acroins, as this is not something common. I personally have a HP Pavilion DV6 (I think it is) and have not had any issues. I’m sure supports will be able to help out once you get those logs to them.

In the mean time, one thing I did notice is your boot disk is very old, the current build I believe is 10.0.13545 (Update 4) You might even find using the latest boot CD might fix your issue if there was any known driver issue with your hardware and has been updated..etc..etc
A quick way to get this tested would be to log into your Acronis account (http://www.acronis.com.au/my) click on “My Products & Downlaods” expand your ABR10 product and select the “Bootable Media” sub tag, This will allow you to download the current boot CD media right away, burn it and give it a try.
