Can only see system database after installing sql agent

Thread needs solution

After installing the sql agent on one of our MS SQL Servers I can only see the system db.  I found an article about changing the user for the sql vss writer, but that did not work. We have 2 other SQL Server and I don't have the issue with either of them.

Hello Tom!

The issue seems to be related with non granted permissions for the user. Please check the following solutions:

  1. Verify Installation and Configuration: Double-check that the Acronis SQL Agent was installed correctly on the affected SQL Server. Ensure that all necessary configurations and settings were applied accurately.

  2. Check SQL Server Permissions: Confirm that the user account or service account being used by the Acronis SQL Agent has appropriate permissions to access the databases. Sometimes, permission issues can limit what databases are visible. Enter in SQL and confirm that.

  3. Check VSS Writer Configuration: Although changing the user for the SQL VSS writer didn't work initially, revisit the steps you took to ensure that the configuration was modified correctly. Check if there are any additional settings that need to be adjusted. Reboot the machine, this may help with the VSS.

  4. Compare Server Configurations: Since the issue is not present on the other two SQL Servers, compare their configurations with the problematic server. Look for differences in SQL Server versions, patch levels, permissions, and any other relevant settings.

  5. Review Logs and Errors: Check both the Acronis Backup logs and the SQL Server logs for any error messages or warnings related to the SQL Agent. These logs might provide valuable clues about what's going wrong.

Feel free to contact if you have any additional queries.

Thanks in advance!

I looks like after restarting the sql vss writer I can see the user databases now. I am using the old account to run the services.
