Cannot read from disk error

Thread needs solution

I have a client who recently replaced a hard drive. However, the tech that replaced it didn't use the Acronis backup (didn't know about it) and used some other type of "imaging" program.

We found that the scheduled tasks no longer worked after this hard drive replacement.

So, after re-installing Acronis on Windows 2000, and re-creating the scheduled tasks, etc., the client's (Acronis backup) scheduled tasks *still* don't run reliably. He just got a "Cannot read from disk" error this morning.

However, if he clicks the Acronis backup icon, the backup runs fine. And, he claims that everything else on the computer runs fine.

This still sounds like it could be a hardware problem, but I'm a little concerned that it could be Acronis since after I un-installed/re-installed Acronis, it "remembered" its scheduled tasks.

Any ideas what the problem could be and what I should try next?

Thanks.

Hello Jim,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/ | Acronis True Image]]

I understand the issue clearly and I can assist you with it.

1) First of all, we should be sure that the hard drive doesn't contain file system errors. Could you please check the disks for errors?

- Go to the Command Prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd)
- Enter the command: "chkdsk DISK: /r"
where DISK is the partition letter you need to check. Please note, that
checking the C: drive may require you to reboot the machine.
2) According to our database, you are using Acronis True Image 10.0 Home. I suggest you to update the SnapAPI module.

- Download SnapAPI update (this file is compatible with Acronis True Image 10.0 Home);

- Unpack the archive and run the SnapAPISetup.msi file;

- Go through the wizard screens and hit Proceed to install the update.

You will need to reboot the machine to finish the installation.

See if the issue remains. If the issue still persists, please download Acronis Report utility available here and run it, create a report and attach to your post.

This would provide us with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.

Please keep us informed.

Thank you.
