Can't find Tape Drives connected by Optical SCSI

Thread needs solution

I have a tape deck connected to a Dell Server via Optical SCSI. I have Symantec installed and running on the server, and the Server 2003 OS can see the tape drives.

I am trialling Acronis for a better solution, however when I installed ABR10, it can not see the tape drives. I downloaded tapes.exe (from a search in your kb) and it produced this result.

CreateFile: \\.\tape0: error 32
CreateFile: \\.\tape1: error 32
No tapes found

is there anything I can do here? It is possible Symantec software is blocking the Acronis from seeing the tape?

thanks

Hello Simon Michnowicz,

Thank you very much for your post. I will be happy to assist you.

Can you please check if you have Symantec Backup Exec installed, if it is, then most likely this is the cause of the issue you are experiencing.

At the moment, the only solution to this, if you want our software to run on that machine, is to uninstall Backup Exec.

You can also check the following article from our Knowledge Base for additional information -

Acronis Products Cannot Access Tape Drives if There Is Symantec's Backup Exec Installed

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you.
