Compatibility List for Universal Restore?

Thread needs solution

Hello everybody!

I get Backup & Recovery 10. My experiences with the module Universal Restore are ambivalent. In many cases the restore to different hardware failed.

Maybe someone knows if there is existing a compatibility list for Universal Restore? Or could give a helpful hint in view of a suitable chipset or HDD-controller. The OS for the hardware-transfer is Windows XP Pro.

Thank you very much,

Hello Peter,

Welcome to our forum and thank you for your post. I will definitely help you with your question.

I am sorry about the experience you had with Acronis Universal Restore, but maybe I can assist you with troubleshooting this. If I am not mistaken, the restored operating system would either boot with a BSOD error message: 0x00000007b or it would constantly reboot.

There is no compatibility list for Acronis Universal Restore because Acronis Universal Restore simply injects the provided drivers into the operating system during recovery. The important factor is to provide the correct hard disk controller and chipset drivers in *.inf *.sys or *.oem extensions.

If you are 100 % certain that the proper drivers were specified but the operating system still fails to boot, then it is up to our technical support resolve such issues. You can always contact our support directly and we will resolve the issue. I would appreciate if you can get back to me with additional information regarding the problem you are experiencing, so that I can either provide you with a solution or a workaround or guide you to collect the required logs for additional investigation by our Support team.

I can recommend the following article from our Knowledge Base that shows in great detail how to work with Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 and Acronis Universal Restore. You can find it at this link.

If you are not sure about your hardware, I can suggest this link that will help you find your Device ID. There is also a Device ID database which is available here, you can use to find your hardware model by the Device ID.

I would really appreciate if you can get back to me in case you have additional questions.

Thank you.

Thank you for the fast answer!

Probably within the next weeks I will have to do a migration of a workstation to new hardware. First I will try it and post you if I come in troubles.

With best regards,

Peter
