Converting VHD or VMWare into TIB files?

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I can create Virtual machines from real machines and Images. That works fine. But:

Does anyone here know a way how to turn an VHD or VMWare virutal machine file into an Acronis TIB file which then can be restore back to a physical machine (using universal restore)?

That would be quite handy to prepare a system harmlessly in a virtual machine and then when its finished and done to copy it to a real hardware.

Hi Riffraff,

If you want to create an image of Virtual machine and restore it to physical machine, take the image of the VM using Acronis, and then restore the image to the real physical machine using Universal Restore.

I am trying this now and get "A disk read error has occured".
So it must have something to do with the MBR.
Anyone?
Help.

Hello all!

First of all thank you for opening the thread regarding this question, I will be glad to help you!

I would like to confirm in the first place that the only solution for RiffRaff scenario is to backup the virtual machine and recover it onto physical one with the help of Acronis Universal Restore, as Mark mentioned (thank you).

Jeff, it is upsetting to hear that you faced the issue with this scenario, and I would like to help you with it. Unfortunately due to the lack of investigation information it is difficult to identify the reason, so could you please kindly provide me with the following?

  1. Could you please provide us with the exact sequence of actions that lead to the problem you report, so that we can reproduce it?
  2. In case you have faced this error on the bacup step, please kindly send us the Acronis Info:
    - Download AcronisInfo
    - Run the downloaded file.

The gathered information will be put in AcronisInfo.zip in the same folder, where the AcronisInfo was saved.

This information will allow us to take a closer look at the Acronis product state and logs.

  3. In case it occurred after the recovery, could you please tell us what exact drivers have you specified?

Please note that in case you are restoring onto the dissimilar hardware you need to add the drivers, otherwise your system will not boot. Please note that prior to restoring to new hardware you need also to contact the vendor of the RAID controller (or other mass storage device - e.g. SCSI disk controller, chipset, etc.) and request the latest drivers for this mass storage device.

Then please unpack them from the package they are sent to you, so that the drivers were in .inf and .oem format

I would advise you to take a look at the Acronis Universal Restore User's Guide with the step-by-step screenshots for Acronis Backup and Recovery products or Acronis True Image products. You may find it useful.

I would appreciate if you could keep me posted regarding the case, and should you have any further questions - just post the comment here or contact us directly, we will be glad to help!

Thank you!
