Here is the information I received when I asked the same question to Acronis Support. I did not go through all these steps, I actually installed an agent locally on the virtual machine and it backed up with no problem at all.

There can be several reasons of why the snapshot failed. You can follow the below mentioned solutions:

1. Reinstall VMware Tools. Update VMware Tools to the latest version available.

2. Disable SYNC driver as described in the link given below:

3. Recreate VM’s snapshot configuration as described in below mentioned link:

4. Follow VMware’s own guide for troubleshooting this type of issues provided in the following link:

5. If VM runs a database, try giving it more processors/RAM. Allow VM to use more of the host/cluster resources

6. If nothing helps, collect detailed VMware logs from File -> Export -> Export system logs... and try to get some help from VMware support
