The data is invalid

Thread needs solution

Hello

Yesterday I tried to make a restore of a Windows XP Home with ARB 10 yesterday. It did not go well...

When I specified the drivers for UR and started the restore it died at 77%.
When I didn't specify any drivers for UR then it stopped at about 55%.
If I didn't activate UR no error appears. But the pc makes a BSOD. I knew that would happen.

I read the post at the KB
15140: Message "The data is invalid" during Recovery with Acronis Universal Restore
http://kb.acronis.com/content/15140

It is the same error message that I get, but the drivers I used were not located on a network drive. They were located on a Kingston USB drive.

I tried with version 12497 and 12705 of ABR with UR.

Regards
Michael

Dear Michael,

Welcome to our Forum, it's nice to have you with us. I understand your concern, and will do my best to help you.

The drivers on the network drive is not the only cause, it's the main cause specified in the KB. I've checked the log, but it's not very obvious whether you've tried the solution specified in the article

The temporary workaround is to build WinPE media with Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 - a fairly easy procedure:

  1. Download the latest Build from My Products & Downloads:
    1. Select Download older builds and read version history:

    2. Select Build 11639:

    3. Select Download Build 11639:

  2. When downloaded, run the installation file and install Bootable Media Builder:

  3. When installed, run the Bootable Media Builder:

  4. Create WinPE media as described in Acronis Backup & Recovery 10: Using Acronis Media Builder to Build WinPE with Acronis Plug-In.

Could you please let us know whether you've tried the solution, and the exact steps performed?

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!
