Did not back up or image HP laptop's recovery partition
Hello all,
I am not sure if this is the correct forum. I just downloaded Acronis® Backup & Recovery™ 10 Workstation 15 day trial.
I did a hard drive cloning of my HP laptop's 160gb (about to die) to a new 500gb hard drive.
Everything worked good because I was able to boot up my laptop using only the "cloned" new drive.
However, when I tried to restore my laptop to its original manufacture settings (by holding down F11 at boot up), my laptop kept restarting unsuccessfully. I put in my old drive and was able to boot to the "restore" partition.
What did I do wrong? Was I supposed to check the "copy NT setting" option? Am I using the wrong software? Should I have used Acronis True Image software instead?
I am seriously considering buying whichever software that can clone my laptop's hard drive completely including the "restore" partition.
Thank you,
Teo

Hi Oleg,
Are you saying that Acronis software CAN clone the HP_RECOVERY partition AND HP's unique MBR Master Boot Record to a replacement drive so that HP's hot-keys during boot for that computer will once again access the recovery partition just as original?
All we have to do is keep the cloned recovery partition un-re-sized (new jargon!) and it will work?
Does Acronis guarantee it can clone HP_RECOVERY partitions and MBR and hot-key boot access?
This is ALL I am after, and if you guarantee it, I will buy it.
Otherwise ...
Thanks. Looking forward to your response.

Hello Peter!
Thank you for your comment and for your interest in our software.
As already mentioned by Oleg, it is possible, but that depends on the hardware of particular model. In case it is related to the recovery partition only, than there should be no issue and you just make sure that recovery partitions isn't resized.
Should it be related to some particular in-built firmware chip, you will have to contact vendor's support.
I would anyway suggest you to test the solution before making a purchase - trial version is the best option to understand whether the product meets your needs. You can find all trial version here.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you!

If HP placed executable code related to booting from recovery partition into the area between the MBR and the first partition (63 sectors), this may fail, as this area (afaik) is not saved during backup unlike MBR.
