Disc Image failure due to write protect with Windows XP

Thread needs solution

I'm using True Image 8.0 for full or partial disc images on external HDD's. Now, this was not possible due to an error "write protect" and the advice to remove the write protect faeture. This, however, is not possible at XP, even not on the command level with "attrib -r".
Does someone has a workable solution?
