Disk Cloning.. dumb question

Thread needs solution

Maybe this is a dumb question but.... using TI11 I want to clone my hd to a dupicate HD to be able to boot to this cloned disk in case of disaster of my HD. I know that I must put the NEW disk into the laptop and use my "old" disk on the usb (which I will put the "old" disk BACK into the laptop after cloning), in order to make the clone (new) bootable. Question is.... will the "old" disk that I put back into the laptop *boot* after cloning? The Old disk is actually a new HD in the laptop which I recently installed Win 7, completely configured and installed apps. The "new" disk is a same physical size as the old disk, and I will use it if the "old" disk fails. In other words, does cloning remove the boot partition or make the "old" disk unbootable in any way? both disks are sata.

Thanks

Ken

1. Install the blank target disk onto the laptop on same connector as old drive. The source disk can be attachd in an alternate location--such as docking station, etc.
2. Boot from the TI Rescue CD
3. Perform the clone and shutdown.
(any diagnostic or boot partitins should not be enlarged)
4. Leave clone attached but Disconnect any and all other drives.
5. Reboot the first time with only the clone attached.
6. After clone recognized and working, you can then attach other drives via usb.

After the above, should you want to switch the cloned drive.
1. Shutdown and disconnect all drives including the all usb.
2. Attach a new boot disk and boot with this the only drive attached.
3. After booted, usb drives can be attached.

Important to remember.
When switching drives on the first boot following the switch,
the one and only drive which can be connected is the boot drive.
You do not want Windows to see two identical drives and have to make a choice. When you have two identical drives, be sure the boot is only with one drive attached otherwise you will have a drive lettering issue and it may attempt to boot from the wrong drive.
