Disk Read Error
Now I am annoyed. It seems that this issue is fairly common. On recovery, (twice now ) I get a message on boot of "a disk read error has occurred. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart".
Background: I have an Asus 64 bit board with an IDE at Disk 0, and two 1 TB disks as 1 and 2.
Disk 1 is a multiboot with Vista being the boot and system drive, and Win7-64 being the other partition (C:).
Before trying to remove the multiboot issue, I purchased full versions of ATI Home 2011 and Disk Director. I made a full disk image of Disk 1 on a temporarily attached 1TB drive. It produced the normal tib file. The image was sector by sector.
OK, so now the removal of the multiboot does not work and I have attempted to restore the backup. I have done this twice now and on both occasions I have ended up with a message on boot of "Disk read error occurred....".
Now this is the Home version and supposedly marketed at dumb users, but it does not work!
What is the point of this software?? I have Windows Home Server running on a server on my home network to backup/restore data, but I thought I needed something more robust for systems files.
Does anyone have any bright ideas, before I am forced to reinstall Win7 and all the other app software?? I expected Acronis to do better than this -- unless I have done something really stupid -- well I did get married!.
