Does Build 17217 Work ?

Thread needs solution

Hi All,

Is anyone successfully running this version ?

Attempted to upgrade to this release today and it trashed my install, for 1 it did not offer to upgrade my install and prompted for removal of the current ABR 11. I've managed to get some components to re-install after many attempts and reboots but any component install requiring the license server just hangs. Also removing the previous version and "not" ticking the option to remove config removed all my licenses from the license server. I'm now assuming if I do manage to resolve this stupid installer issue all my backup configs will be gone.

Well I've moved onto the web installer as this seems able to contact the license server allowing me to complete my install, no idea what's wrong with the full installer.

Hi,
I'm not fully succesfull.
Upgrading from 10 to 11 means, I had to update every server manually, because on every server there are services and processes hanging, which I have to kill manually. After that the installation runs.
Now I have a backup-plan which I couldn't stopp and so couldn't delete. Support-Call -->

The whole management console ist confusing. Tasks are very good hidden.
Even version 11 isn't able to mark more than one line (tasks etc.) for operations like stopp or delete. --> :-(

From version to version this product becomes more unfriendly for administrators.
(License-Management on the website and in the product itself is a horror!)

I did not even attempt an upgrade, I did a clean install to a new server and a new vault. I did upgrade my license server successfully.
So far my ABR11 install is working very well. A few odd issues, but still MUCH better than ABR10.

Paul,

I did the same thing. I uninstalled ABR10 and ran the cleanup tool. From there, I reinstalled the management console and created a new vault. I am seeing some minor issues so far, but at least I can actually see my physical and virtual machines(freshly made virtual appliances as well). The backups do seem slower on a couple of the physical boxes but I am not having any issue with licensing so far.

I did notice my virtual machines are not part of the backup plan when they should be but that could be an error on my part as I just threw something together fast to test it.

I'll contribute more to this thread as I know more, but I would definitely not recommend an upgrade if it is possible. I had nothing but server hangs and problems trying to upgrade from 10 to 11.

Was a complete horror story for me. I was on to support for three weeks before we had to give up and ask for brand new full version keys instead of the upgrade keys that simply were not working.

I'm still having many problems to do with VSS and not being able to lock disks or files for backup.

What is more worrying is that it is now August, we installed in June and there has not been an update to ABR 11 so far, or atleast the version number has not changed. I just hope Acronis get the major things like being able to install, and being able to backup fixed into a new version before they deal with minor issues.

I also installed in June and have had more problems than I have the time to list here. Acronis support is now completely ignoring me. They will not respond to my emails AT ALL. I even filled out a support request email on the support site a week ago with no response. If anyone is thinking of upgrading and hasn't yet i would HIGHLY recommend that you wait until next year.

Now running 11 with over 100 vms and 70 physical servers, usual early adoption issues but it backs up and I'm able to restore... The new features will out weigh the teething issues I'm sure. I here rumors there will be a release soonish.

We decided to go down the clean install approach (uninstall and abrcleanup.exe --clean etc) Suggest you will have less of a headache.

I'd make sure it's actually removeing the snapshots it created to do the backups because the first I knew was that all free space on the SAN was gone and VMs were falling over!

Hi Adrian

I have not done much testing with the VMWare virtual appliance as yet but I’ve been using the newer VMWare Windows Agent and it’s been working very well so far, if you are having issues with snapshots being left behind please could you try the VMWare Windows agent as well if you can as I would be interested to see if you have the same issues or not (I will also try and get some testing done with the appliance to see if I get the same snapshot issues as reported)

Matt: Are you able to confirm if you are using the VMWare appliance of VMWare Windows Agent at the moment?

Hi Datastor,

I'm also using the windows offload engine now as the vm appliance (virtual appliance) was leaving some guests with orphaned delta files, If your having this issue this is a useful vm kb for repairing. Otherwise a clone cures

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cm…

Still get the odd delta left behind but much better. also set it to backup 1 vm at a time but spread the load over 2 window agents, Tasks set per cluster.
