Does licensing work for other products?
Hello everyone,
This may sound a little ridiculous but... I had a valid copy of and license for Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Server for Windows, I was wondering if it would be possible to use that CD key to register and use an older version of Acronis True Image Echo Server, probably 9.5 or 9.7.8203.
Any ideas on this? I know it may not make sense but we're running in to the problem where acronis changed their physical to virtual algorithm so that it cannot convert archives that are larger than 127GB. This is a problem since we need to convert archives of about 500GB in size and it seems only the older versions of Acronis products can accomplish that.
Any input is appreciated,
Thanks
Clovell

Hello Yana,
Thank you for the response. We are basically looking for a product which can capture an image of a hard drive of around 500GB and convert that archive in to a .VHD
I attempted this with a trial version of True Image Echo Server 9.7.8203 and it worked perfectly.

Can you answer me why the functionality of making a .VHD file for Microsoft Virtual Server Hyper-V has been removed in Backup and Recovery 10 Server? This seems like a step backwards, limiting customers to only be able to convert smaller archives in to virtuals

Hello Christopher!
Thank you for your question!
I have contacted our Development team regarding this question and will be glad to shed the light to the situation and provide you with the workaround.
Conversion functionality is still present in the Acronis Backup and Recovery product, and 127Gb limitation appears to be limitation made for GUI. Originally this funciton was designed for converting *.tib for Virtual PCs (which has 127Gb limitation), so after converting 500 Gb *.tib to the *.vhd Virtual PC didn't recognise it as s drive, though it is still usable for Hyper-V.
You can still convert the image to the *.vhd, but in case it is larger than 127 Gb, it can be done only from product's command line. You can find more details in this ABR Server for Windows Command Line Guide, p.6, Convert option.
This inconvenience will be improved in the next release, and meanwhile that is the only workaround.
I completely understand how upsetting the situation can be and will fprward your comments to the Product Management team.
Let me know in case you have any additional questions - I will be glad to address them.
Thank you!
