Does Not Prompt to Use Acronis Universal Restore

Thread needs solution

I have to restore an image based on a given hardware to the same PC but after changing RAID card.

Here is the main informations:

OS backuped : Vista SP2 x64

Old RAID : adpatec 3405

New Raid: adaptec 5405

Image: performed with True Image Home 2009 version before 9769

I know that BR10 does not guarante that the image made with TI2009 is read by BR10, that's why I installed and run the trial version (but without Universal Restore which was unavailable for trial very unfortunately): everything was OK and I restored without any problem.

So I purchased BR10 + option Universal Restore.

With CD rescue I made or with BR10 installed on a secondary minimal Vista OS, the result is the same: BR10 does not prompt to use Universal Restore.

I read the this item kb.acronis.com/content/1823 and everything is OK:

  1. The partition contains an OS: Vista 64x
  2. The OS is supported: Vista
  3. The OS partition is selected but without MBR selected
  4. The backup does not contain dynamic disk but RAID0 managed by Adaptec Raid card.
  5. Check if the ARC path in boot.ini of the system that you are trying to restore starts with muti or scsi:
I cannot see anything regarding this remark in my boot.ini if I use msconfig.exe This syntax is used by Windows XP not by Vista
  6. If the operating system is still not detected, then please get Acronis Report from the source system and contact Acronis Customer Central with reference to this article. Also, include information if the backup was created from Windows or from Acronis Bootable Media, and what build and version of Acronis product was used : SEE ABOVE

I attached the acronis report.

Now I'm a bit upset because I purchased a solution which seems incompatible with my case although you mentionned it was possible: forum.acronis.com/forum/3516

Is there a way to convert TI2009 image to be fully compatible with BR10 & Universal Restore ?

Frank,

Are you sure UR is included on the rescue disc? There was a problem with the installer, for sure with the initial release of BNR 10. I'm not sure about the latest build.

Here is a link to the thread about the issue....

> Are you sure UR is included on the rescue disc ?

Yes, I'm ... according the Acronis screen.

Same issue if I work from the secondary OS (without using home made CD rescue)

acronis universal restore selected

I post further infos about what I did since my last post:

I fully reinstalled all the ABR10 for installing the latest build 11105.

I rewrote a CD media for booting:

  • Yes, as mentionned in the screen shoot in my previous post, the UR is installed and the media will be (should be !) created with the universal restore
  • Yes, I selected the right drivers for the new hardware during the build process of the bootable CD.

I restored my image by using my new CD but nowhere a dialog didn't prompt to use Acronis Universal Restore.

I would like to have some example showing this mysterious dialog. Anybody ?

End of story:

True Image 2009 (which performed the backup image) does not include informations used by ABR10 for detecting that the image contains an OS.

Proof: I made a backup of my rescue OS (based on an SATA HDD instead of an RAID array managed by a PCI card) by using ABR10. Then I restored this backup to a another partition and miraculously new options including the ones related to Universal Restore and Active Restore appeared as shown below.

Question: I guess it is impossible to add the missing info in the TI2009 backup.

Hello Frank,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

You are correct, the compatibility of the archives created by Acronis True Image Home 2009 with Acronis Backup@Recovery is not guaranteed. Since Acronis Bootable Rescue Media with Acronis Universal Restore has failed to detect the OS in the image, we are unable to enforce it. We are also unable to convert the image or to add the necessary information to make it compatible with Acronis Backup@Recovery. The only thing I can propose you is to create another Acronis Bootable Rescue Media based on ISOLINUX and to try it.

We have implemented the possibility to download the appropriate ISO file after logging in to your account (the serial number should be registered). Please log in to your account, go to the Registered products section -> Bootable media. Download the file.

You can find more information on how to burn an ISO image to a CD here [/url] and here.

Thank you.

Hello, I logged in into my account where I registered three products

  • Acronis True Image 2009 Home
  • Acronis Backup&Recovery Workstation
  • Acronis Backup&Recovery Workstation Universal Restore

Only TI 2009 has a "Bootable media" tab allowing me to download the ISO boot media. How can I get the "bootable media" for Acronis BR 10 ? Regards Frank

Hello Frank,

Thank you for your response.

I have checked your account, and I can see the possibility to download the appropriate ISO file for Acronis Backup & Recovery with AUR. Could you please check it again? If you are still unable to download the file, please let me know about via PMs, I will send you the file.

Thank you.
