Domain Controller Backup and Restore

Thread needs solution

I just want to verify what is all need in order to restore a Domain Controller. In my current setup, I only have one domain controller in my domain. I am going to be raising the domain function level on this domain from 2000 to 2003. If anything goes wrong I want to be able to restore my previous setup. I have created a backup image of my domain controller which I do about once a week. After reading a little bit in the forums, I did turn on VSS. I just want to calm my fears that if something does go wrong I can turn back the clock to my previous backup, which I will do about 1 hour before I make the change.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

You may also 1) boot it from bootable media to verify that the media sees hard disks and try to browse file system on it e.g. in 'where to backup' 2) and perform backup from the bootable media too if you do not trust VSS to ensure AD consistency.

Thanks for the information. If i read this correclty, if something goes wrong, I can just do a bare metal restore using my backup and all should be good.
