Email Notification
Hello all,
I'm sure there is a simple solution but this has me stumped. I want to setup email notifications but the test message keeps failing. The error is not helpful as it simply states "error occurred while sending the test message" with no elaboration when you click on "details". There is a code of 13,107,201(0xC80001) if that helps.
I am able to send the email using telnet from the same machine and the same credentials so I am happy that I can see the exchange server and that it is not rejecting the message in anyway.
Can someone please help.
Jon

I had problems with TI email notification for a long time until I set it up EXACTLY like the below screen captures (use your own user name). I know this works for pop3 on Gmail and Yahoo. Obviously Yahoo will have different port and server settings. The trick is to enter your Incoming Mail Server then uncheck the "Log on to incoming mail server" Not sure why this works, but it does. I have not tried TI 2010. Hope this helps.

I had no problem setting up Email Notification under TI. I could not get this to work under the first ABR 10 release. After a couple of weeks with support, they acknowledged some problem and said it might be fixed in the next version. It has not been fixed in this last version.
I had no problems with TI. I have no problems with settings under Thunderbird and Mutt (a Unix mailer I use under Cygwin), with my domain ingber.com or other gateways I can use at gmail.com and caltech.edu. Only ABR 10 is not responding to any settings. I tried this on the phone with tech support and all their suggestions did not work either.
However, trying jgkurz's format, I did get email to work. I could not understand why two tech support people insisted I needed to fill out the POP section. I have only used my gmail for smtp once in a while, and then using port 587. This setup works fine, including being able to send email anywhere as long as the parameters page uses gmail. I cannot yet get email though any of my other accounts.
Thanks.
Lester

I have just got mine working. I use Outlook but I think that is irrelevant.
The setup has the following only:
email address (without any brackets or anything else around it)
Outgoing mail server
Port
Encryption = None
Subject
Tick the 4 boxes at the bottom
That's it - it works for me. No need for anything else.

Snot here .......
Don't get too excited about my email setup for notifications above .....
It does send me a test email .......
BUT my backup has just finished and I didn't receive an email.

Snot here again ...
It seems the setup I mentioned above as working for Test notification - but not when really needed when a backup finishes ......... does actually work when really needed, provided you register the product.
It would be a good idea for this to be made clear to users like me who might otherwise bin the trial software and buy another product instead !

Hi, I have it worling ok on ABR10 Advanced Workstation, I took my email user name and password out of the out going (SMTP)server box in Additional email settings, and just left SMTP.blabla.com and port 25 then it was ok, sends email with reports just fine

I'm not exactly a rookie either but email test notification is not working in version TI Home 2009. In fact the program is freezing. So am I learning here that there will be no bug fix for this version?

Similar to others, I cannot get test email notification to work. I've tried everything others here on this forum have used and have tried most every combination. Provider is msn.com. Requires SMTP authentication using Port 25. POP3 login enabled on port 995 with SSL. As far as I can see, authentication for SMTP outgoing is achieved by the loging in first. I'm using Win7 (64-bit), TIH 2010. I import into Outlook 2007 using the Outlook Connector. Firewall (Norton Internet Security 2 010) can be on or off with no difference - failure. I have included and allowed the two notification *.exe files. With Norton 2007 firewall disabled, firewall protection reverts to Windows Defender. Provider has shown nothing in junk/spam folder. Hopefully the attachments may help diagnose the problem. If necessary I could set up a Live mail (or gmail or yahoo mail) if that is only solution. I prefer to stay with Outlook.

I have tried everything recommended as well, including the KB article that Oleg Lee referenced. I cannot get the e-mail test function to work except in certain circumstances.
If I am offsite and logged into the server through our VPN, the test e-mail function works. Exchange server seems to be happy as a clam, and the test e-mails go through just fine.
But, if I am onsite and connected directly to the LAN, the test e-mail function will not work. It just hangs and says "processing". However, the e-mail is sent automatically at completion of a backup.
Clearly this must be a bug in ABR10.

I just upgraded to TI 2010 and email notification broke. I removed the brackets that were required around the email address in TI 2009 and it works perfectly. I now get consistent and reliable notifications in TI 2010.

Thanks jgkurz. Excellent advice re getting email to work with Acronis True Image Home 2009 . Important to note the "<" and ">" surrounding the email address. Without these delimiters, I could not get my email to work through gmail.

Just so were are all clear..
TI 2009 requires brackets
TI 2010 requires NO brackets

Same problem with Acronis® True Image Echo Server® (build 8,398) and have made all of the configurations mentioned here and in the Acronis kb database referenced above in this thread. Nothing works. And that's just the test feature, not the actual notification at the end of the job.
I methodically worked through all possible combinations of user and password names for two different SMTP servers using two different Windows servers and using both TI9.x and ABR10.x No luck -- and apparently luck is what it takes to get this feature up and working.
The angle brackets was a new one - thanks to whoever posted that. Still not working for me though. And yes, I worked through the same combinations now possible with angle brackets.
I am using the same credentials in Outlook Express on the same servers on which I am attempting to get email notification setup. OLE works fine.
So why not Acronis? Angle brakets or not. blank out the "From" and "Subject" line, can't use an SMTP server that expects encryption..... And this is for release 9.x and 10.x?!!!!?? Can't say this builds my confidence that I will be able to successfully restore my data.
Anyone figures out another method that works for them please post. I don't care if it works for others or not at this point, just so long as it works for me.

Yes, I too have fallen to the nasty problem of a broken email notification sender. I couldn't agree more that the failure notice the application gives you is so lame and lacking in helpful content or details. That being said, I had to explore and go by trial/error.
Suggestion: I found a combination that works for me only because I tried this similar technique previously with a router log that was not sending out successfully. I believe it comes down to where and how the application is trying to resolve an email address (problem with DNS). This application seems to fail in the same area.
First I eliminated my firewall by reviewing all logs and eventually opening some settings (lowering protection) and this did not resolve the problem. Looking back at TIH2010, I then substituted the actual IP of the SMTP server in place of the fully qualified hostname and initially it tried and made progress a lot further before things failed. I then went to the "additional e-mail parameters" section and removed the "subject" and "from" entries so the boxes were completely blank (talk about a LAME bug). Finally, I had to select the check box for logging into the POP mail server (???WTH???). Strangely enough I did not need to substitute an IP here but used the fully qualified hostname of the POP server. I did not change any of the port address for the SMTP or the POP side and simply used the defaults. Presto! We have a successful test email being sent out.
Recap:
1. Substitute IP for the SMTP server name
2. Blank out the "subject" and "from" fields
3. Enable logging into the POP server
I have time-warner for my cable service so I am using this setup to work with their network and webmail. I cannot say if any of this will work for your ISP or if you use one of the other webmail accounts such as yahoo or gmail. I hope this at least helps a few more users in resolving this annoyingly stupid bug.

Hello Marcus Fritsch,
Thank you very much for your post. I am very sorry for the inconvenience but I will do my best to assist you.
First of all, I would like to clarify something please. Have you tried each single mail, to test and see if "single e-mail" notification works for every one of them? This will really help us to determine the cause of this issue.
Please make sure that your multiple e-mail addresses are separated by a semicolon (;) and also check the following article that explains how to provide correct settings for e-mail notifications.
Let me know if you have any other questions or run into any issues.
Thank you.

After a lot of fiddling around, I managed to send a test message. I never received the email, though. It's not in any Spam folder, either.
