Email Notifications in ECHO 8398 (Any success out there...???)

Thread needs solution

Howdy,

We installed ECHO Build 8398 on 7 of our systems. We had been using Build 8163 prior to that.

We cannot get Email Notification to work on any of the machines running Build 8398.

We know the settings needed, and have tried sending from two different smtp servers but never have had a success.

In addition, when we click Send test e-mail message, a small dialog opens showing a circular progress dial. That simply hangs with the dial running endlessly.

I know that the trueimagenotify service is running.

We need this email notification feature...

Does it ever work in Build 8398 or should we just go back to the earlier build?

Thanks for any help,

A.C.

All I can do it vouch for 8398 working in several of my customer's environments. I have upgraded four of them to-date and the e-mail notifications seem to work well.

Are you using an internal Exchange Server for your smtp? Just out of curiousity can up open a command prompt and ping your smtp server by name?

Hi Mark,

We do not use an exchange server...

And, I can ping either of the two smtp servers I have tried.

In fact, I can send mail from Outlook, or Outlook Express using either of the smtp servers. But when I enter the same settings in ECHO, it fails to send.

I am baffled...

Might you have further thoughts?

Sincere thanks,

A.C.

I had run into this issue with ABR10, but it may be valid for you.

Even if you have the option unchecked to login to a POP server prior to sending, it will still use it. What you need to do is check it again, remove all the entries, then re-disable it. Hope that works for you.

Hmmm,

Your comment is interesting, but each of my two available smtp servers requires that I log into their pop server.

Thanks for any further thoughts,

A.C.

Hi again,

One other thing...

I vaguely remember having a difficulty of this sort with an earlier version of Echo.

The earlier problem had something to do with the entry in the "From" field.

Do you know if that must be in a particular format?

Thanks, as before,

A.C.

Hello again,

I just noticed something that might be relevant...

After reading a bunch of threads and articles about the problem I am having, I tried putting the intended recipient email address in angled brackets, and leaving empty the "From" and "Subject" fields.

I also added trueimagenotify.exe to my trusted folder in Kaspersky AV.

How silly of me not to have known of the importance of these modifications. They would certainly be plainly evident to any clairvoyant...

In any case, those changes did not help. No email is sent...

I went on to other matters, but then had to re-boot the box on which I am working now.

When the system started its shutdown routine, I saw that a service would not close:

Wouldn't ya know? It was trueimagenotify.exe!

Any thoughts on next steps?

Many thanks,

A.C.

Ooops... something else I should mention:

Experimenting with all this, I have learned that the "Test email message" never works, so, to test, I sometimes start a task, let it run a bit, and then cancel it.

That seems to hang Echo also.

When I click "Cancel" I am asked if I am sure, and click to confirm.

Then, on the tray, it shows that the task is still running, as does the comment on the task itself. It sometimes takes 30 minutes to change its status to "Terminated by user."

Thanks again for any thoughts,

A.C.
