Extremely important, cant access data at all !

Thread needs solution

Hi everybody, this is extremely sensitive issue for me because the lost data are photos of nearly a decade of my life !!!

I use Acronis 9.1 corporate workstation.

I have deleted the first file of an incremental backup and am left with the second (of two).

however, the files I want to retrieve are in that second part because they where added after I did the first backup.

this second part is 156 GB in size. I have tried mounting or restoring, both of course wont work.

any chance to go inside that part and retrieve the file? am I the only dummy who ever made this mistake?

help pleeeeeze !!

It is not looking good I am afraid. I am not aware of anyone ever posting that they retrieved files when the base backup was deleted leaving only an incremental

Grover H has explained how incrementals work and any restoration relies on the first base file (the one you deleted).

"TrueImage is not a file by file backup program. Rather, it works by reading the used sectors on your hard drive.
When restoring, the master or original backup must be within the folder where the other backup files are stored within the backup set. In other words, the whole group of backup becomes a set.(set=original plus all incremental's; or original plus any or all differentials to be used).
The original full backup is the foundation of the entire backup set. A differential or incremental cannot be restored without the original full backup."

It is no comfort to you but your one error of deleting shows the problem of putting critical data into a proprietary container. You can lose everything.
On another note as this was a backup do you not have the original files of the photographs?

It may be possible to recover the deleted file using software if you just did a simple delete but you need to make sure that Windows is not writing to the drive that it was on or you will be overwriting the space occupied by the file. I would remove the drive from the system if possible and then try to recover the file using recovery software.

and no, the backup was made long ago and the originals had been on a disk that crashed recently, I thought I had it backed up - well .....

As the data is so critical you make want to consider getting the drive appraised by professional recovery companies to see if they can recover the base tib file.

It will no doubt cost you but it may be worth it.

Unfortunately True Image is extremely picky about corruption of TIB files when it tries to restore or explore.
