FTP Backup

Thread needs solution

When backing up to a FTP drive over the internet, you initially "Seed" the drive with a full backup and then after that only the incremetals get sent over the slow internet connection, but at some stage the backup on the ftp drive must be consolidated, there is noway you can wiat for a new fullbackup to be sent over the internet (300gb) it would take weeks how would you get the ftp drive to consolidate all the increments?

Hello Sam Cory,

Thank you for using Acronis software.

As long your ftp destination is a real ftp server and not a Windows server with an Acronis agent installed, there is no way to do consolidation or other operations without using the ftp connection.

What you can do is not to consolidate but to delete old backup chains. That is much faster and is the way we recommend to use the vaults. Find more information about retention rules in our online help.

Please do not try to run only one initial full backup and then only incrementals. This will never lead to a running retention rule. Only Acronis online backup can work in this way.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
