full disk restore from a files backup

Thread needs solution

Hi there
Hoping someone can quickly put my mind at ease.

We are dealing with a complete server disk failure, the RAID has completely messed itself up and so we are looking now to a complete Acronis restore to get us back up and running.

However I am concerned that our backup is not sufficient. We have been using a files-type backup, so that our Exchange log files were dealt with correctly. I don't think we have an image backup of the server disk.

Will restoring a files backup to an empty disk also restore the MBR and other boot-related items?

At the moment it is checking the destination disk BEFORE I have pressed Go (at the point of selecting the destination) - it has been for a little while; how long should I wait for this?

Hope this is enough info for you to advise.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Trevor Norwood,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

If you have only a file backup of your server, there is no other way than installing the operating system fresh and then restore the files from file backup. We strongly recommend to run an image backup to protect the machine. Also your MS Exchange Server would be save with an image backup.
