Generic HD divers?

Thread needs solution

So you need the IDE or SATA drivers before you can use universal restore??

Are there any generic drivers out there that will enable you to boot to any system then once you can boot you could install the proper drivers?

Or has anyone complied a huge list of drivers you can download?

Would it be possible to

1) Store the partition image and loads of HD drivers on one USB stick
2) Install and boot the recover + Universal restore on another USB

It kind of takes the point/magic out of a "universal restore" if you still have to have the specific HD / chipset drivers for the pc you are installing too?

Hello Andyr,

Thank you for your interest in [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]

Acronis Universal Restore provides an efficient solution for restoration of a hardware-independent system by replacing the crucial HAL (HAL.dll), hard disk controller and NIC drivers. In the case of motherboard and CPU change the replacement of the crucial HAL is necessary. It does automatically detect if the HAL should be changed (and changes it) and also installs drivers for HDD controllers and NIC (if they can be found).

If any system-critical driver cannot be found, one will get a warning message during the restoration process. Acronis Universal Restore allows to specify the location where the necessary drivers are saved.

Actually, you don't need the SATA or IDE drivers, you should add the drivers for the hard drive controller that are not present in the Windows libraries. If the drivers are present in the Windows distribution (i.e. in the backup image), Acronis Universal Restore will exclude and add them during the recovery automatically.

Please note that you are unable to add the necessary controller drivers to the system, backup it and restore the image to a dissimilar hardware. Most probably, the system will be unbootable.

Yes, it is possible. It doesn't sound as the best way to complete the backup/restore operations (it is more convenient to store the archives to, for example, USB HDs because of the larger capacity), but it is possible.

The main problem is to make the bootable USB stick. You can create Acronis Bootable Rescue Media on the USB stick by means of built-in Acronis Media Builder, but sometimes you need to use a third-party loader.

Please see this article on how to do it.

Thank you.
