Get error E00070020 when doing recovery

Thread needs solution

Hi, I am trying to recover my computer from the second hard drive and I an getting the error message that the archive is corrupted.

Since backing up the hard disk to the second hard drive , I have installed an additional memory stick. Could this be the issue?

Also, if I purchase a new computer and install the second hard drive that I'm trying to backup from on that new computer, could I copy the files from it? I'm worried because of the error message.

Thank you. Nice to be here.

Hello Raildogg!

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response. We will do our best to handle your request without any procrastination in the future.

Unfortunately due to the lack of investigation information it is difficult to identify the reason of the problem. There are 3 possible reasons why archive can be reported to be corrupted.

  1. Bad connection with the target location where the backup is stored.
  2. You are trying to recover archive created with the next version of the product
  3. Acrhive is corrupted.

Unfortunately corrupted backup cannot be restored, so in order to identify the issue we can try the following:

  1. Please save the backup to any other suitable location
  2. Make sure you are recovering the image with the same version of the product
  3. Should the recovery fail, please try to mount the image (see chapter 12 in the User's Guide)

In case the backup is reported to be corrupted  there is nothing that we can do with it to save the data from it and you will have to recreate the archive.

Backups happens to get corrupted in case the target or the source locations is corrupted itself or you are saving the image over the network and the connection is not stable. So in order to avoid the corruption of the backup I would advise you to use preventive measures:

  • go to Start -> Run -> cmd and there type chkdsk /f /r . This command will check your hard drive for bad blocks and repair it.
  • try another backup location
  • enable validation option (see chapter 11.1 User's Guide) - this option will check your archive to be safe

I would appreciate if you could kindly let us know whether you have any further questions or concerns - we will be glad to help you!

Thank you!
