Getting Started - How to Image Server

Thread needs solution

I have downloaded the trial version of Acronis BR 11 for Servers (not advanced version) because I read that I could use it to image an SBS 2000 Server. This is an old Server that is no longer in production and has no problems, but we would like an image created of it. It has 4 partitions.

We would like to do three things:

1. Make bootable CD
2. Make image
3. Restore into VMWare Workstation as avirtual machine for safekeeping.

How do we get started? Our first backup failed with insufficient disk space.

The Welcome screen just has "create backup plan" --is this for imaging? How much space we'll we need? And can we backup/image to USB external drive?

Hi PorBar,

you can both make an image and restore it into VMWare Workstation under 'Create backup plan'. Just select to back up all of the disks to your USB drive, choose the 'Run now' backup scheme and fill out the "Convert to virtual machine" section in 'How to back up'. With the default level of data compression, the required storage space is around 70% of the amount of data to be restored.
