GFS Backup to FTP, cleanup fails or stays in running state with 0%

Thread needs solution

Hi,

we've B&R 10 with a GFS backup schema. The backup target is a ftp server. First we had the problem that the cleanup task failed with the error description "Message: Error: An underlying layer has disconnected from the peer.". On some machines we've updated B&R from 10 Build 10.0.12497 to 10 Build 10.0.13544. Now we've the problem that the cleanup task starts and the state is "running", but it stays at 0% for days, weeks... and no other backup task will run. If we make a right click -> stopp the state changes to stopping, but nothing happens. The only way to stop or abort this is, that we have to end the mms.exe process with task manager and restart the Acronis Managed Machine Service.

what's going wrong here?

Hello Patrick,

Thank you for your post. I will take care of this issue for you.

I am not certain how many computers are in your environment but maybe this KB article will be of some help. Otherwise I would recommend to collect this report from the computer where this issue occurs and get in touch with our Support team for additional investigation.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you.

I have the exact same issue on ABR 10 U4 (13544). It's been happening on the previous builds, and just like Patrick Fend mentioned, the only way to address it is to kill the MMS process. Was this ever resolved?

I have the same issue. ABR 10 U4 (13544) on Windows server 2008 hangs when doing cleanup archive located on the ftp.

When your ABR10 hangs on cleanup, does it still produce traffic to the server?

I had a similar problem with ABR10 stalling on cleanup, while completely clogging the FTP server with invalid STAT requests (and producing an impressive amount of network and server load with that) I even had a support case (00961429) which ended in this statement:

"The GFS backup scheme is not intended to backup to FTP. You should use a custom backup scheme and plan the cleanup tasks that way."

Unfortunately the fact that GFS over FTP is unsupported is not mentioned in the manual. Either that or the support person was "not entirely accurate"

I didn't track that bug any longer, because I scrapped FTP backups. I flagged FTP as another bullet point on the B&R feature list that just doesn't work and should be avoided.
