Hangs in middle of backup jobs

Thread needs solution

I've never seen a program have so many problems. On jobs that have been running OK for a few weeks, we're now having intermittent hangs in the middle of the job with the "needs attention" notification. The log ONLY shows the following error which is not helpful.

Anyone know what could be wrong? I'd open a support ticket, but Acronis Support has been seriously dropping the ball, letting support tickets hang for more than a weeks without reply-- even the ones marked "High Severity".

More info.... I clicked the Retry (and then Ignore) buttons and it threw the error "Failed to read data from the disk."

I restarted the job, and once again it got to 91%. So far it's created an archive (.TIB) file 17 GB in size, then fails with the error mentioned above.

I've run CHKDSK on the volume where the VHDs are stored, and the volume came back clean.

How can it be that Acronis "failed to read data from the disk"? The server is idle, not running any other job. It's the weekend and nobody is in the office to use it. And it's NOT a matter of bottleneck disks. The VMs are stored on a 1 TB RAID 1+0 partition with 15,000 SAS Seagate Cheetah disks mated to a P410/512 FBWC disk controller. This is a fast server with very fast enterprise class disks.
