Help with univeral restore..please

Thread needs solution

Hi, well i have a few questions, hope you can answers them.

I want to be able to restore an image on dissimilar hardware.

So first i created an image of my c:\ partition using true image.

Then i created a bootable restore cd which i notice only takes up 60MB on the CD.

I haven't actually tried to restore yet but am going to try it soon on a different pc.

So i am confused, why do you need the 669MB restore install in the first place if the restore bootable cd is only 60MB?

Is this 60MB cd all the files needed to do a universal restore, it seems a bit small?
Can someone explain?

thanks

Yes UR can be only 60MB, but it is only a program that can restore a backed up partition. Some could say that even 60 MB is a lot as some linux installations fit on a 1,44MB FDD and have far more capabilities then acronis restore cd. You will of course need a cd/dvd, or other media with the image itself.

Remember that when restoring to a dissimilar software you have to load to ur at least the storage controller driver of the new hardware to correctly boot the restored system.

Thanks.

How do i know if i have universal restore or have just a standard image restore?

I d/l'ed the "Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Advanced Workstation" trial (i will buy if i can see it working first) which was 689MB does this version have UR?

UR is an add-on to standard b&r, and it's sold separately. It installs as an additional module and allows to create boot disks that can restore stored images to dissimilar hardware.
