How to clone a HD on a laptop

Thread needs solution

Hi everyone,

I would like to clone a brand new HD in order to replace my current one ,which is on its way out.

Since there is no room for 2 HDs on my laptop, how can I realize that?

Thank you.

Hello Babac,

Thank you for using Acronis Products

The easiest way is the following:

1)      Create full drive backup of your source drive and save it on external drive;

2)      Create Acronis bootable disc by means of the program and check its functionality. Boot computer with it and check if external drive recognizes without any issues;

3)      Attach new drive to the notebook;

4)      Boot from Acronis bootable disc and restore the image to a new drive.

Hi Dmitry,

Thanks for this answer.It looks pretty much as I was thinking but I did not dare without  confirmation from another source.

However ,another question comes to my mind.

How do I do to format the new HD(before cloning it) as no OS is installed on it?

Thank you.

Hello Babac,

Thank you for your response.

You can use Add New Disk Wizard (Tools -> Add New Disk).  You can learn more about this feature in User Guide for Acronis True Image Home 2009 available here, chapter 14.

Thank you.

Thanks Oleg.
