How do I restore just the registry from a full backup

Thread needs solution

Working on a friend's Compaq laptop with Windows 2000 Pro. I used my Acronis TI 9.0 to do a full backup before starting to work on her computer. This computer was on a network and had old passwords that weren't being used now that the computer is a home computer. I made the mistake of deleting the password listed in Control Panel > Passwords as there were several. The box was unchecked for using passwords. Well.... when I rebooted the computer it now asks for a logon password (didn't do that before... no password was necessary) and of course we don't have the password.

I made an Acronis rescue CD and my question is can I just restore the registry and not the whole backup??? I've done a lot of work on the computer and don't want to do it all over again.

Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks.

1) backup what you already have on this computer from bootable media if you haven't done it yet. (just in case)
If this version of TI allows file recovery from image archive - recover files in (IIRC) c:\winnt\system32\config or even one file c:\winnt\system32\config\sam
