How do you uninstall B&R

Thread needs solution

In a previous post, I've recorded that B&R has a bug whereby if you change the drive letters after installation, it stops working and is unable to discover the list of drives.

Therefore I thought I'd try uninstalling and re-installing... but there are *five* entries in the list of installed programs.

a) How can you uninstall B&R in one step - I would have expected an uninstall option under Start, Programs but there isn't one
b) Failing that, what order should one uninstall the various components:

Tray monitor
Upgrade tool
Agent
Bootable component and media builder
Standalone managment console

I really do try to like Acronis but sometimes it feels held together with string :-)

Cheers, Rob.

Rob, here's my 2 cents; and this is not only in regards to Acronis but ALL the programs I have running on my beast. A while back I was having a problem getting a program to uninstall cleanly and one of the Cybertech Help forum admins suggested I download Revo Uninstaller

Best move I made all year, the program is one of these "Windows should be like this" gems. The "free" version of the program is all you'll need, but if you are into bells and whistles, there is a Revo UninstallerPro (free 30 day trial)
http://www.revouninstaller.com/

It simply gives you total control over the entire uninstall process of any program on your machine...

(and you're right about the string -- but I think there's a fair bit of duct tape and baling wire involved also...makes the software more robust!)

Hi Phillip - thanks for the recommendation. I work in IT so learning about any tool that makes life easier is always welcome. I'll check it out later. I found a KB article on manually uninstalling B&R but that was completely OTT :-) I've just tried stopping the services and uninstalling the first one (tray monitor) and it complained that there was a file in use and it was also unable to close it. It appeared to carry on but needed a reboot. Let's see what happens next!

Cheers, Rob.

Later... uninstalling in the order listed in control panel actually works if you're happy ignoring a series of warnings about being unable to stop applications etc.

I've just then successfully re-installed B&R and the other bug with renaming drive letters is overcome.

Cheers, Rob.

Hello all!

First of all thank you for opening the thread! Philip, thank you for your suggestion!

I would like to assure you that you can safely remove all the components with the help of Add and Remove programs (Control Panel -> Add and Remove programs), and there is no specific sequence of uninstallation.

But should you be concerned about the traces that may be left after Backup and Recovery components, you can use our Clean-Up Tool. The utility removes all Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Windows components locally from the machine. It does not perform remote uninstallation:

   1. Download the utility and unpack it.
   2. Hit Start -> Run, and type in cmd. Browse to the folder you saved the utility to;
   3. Run the utility by issuing one the following command:
            abr_cleanup.exe --clean

After that all the traces of Acronis Backup and Recovery product will be destroyed. This tool doesn't affect any other products, so it is absolutely safe to use it.

Let me know should you have any further questions or need any assistance - I will be glad to help!

Thank you.

Due to a backup problem I tried to uninstall B&R 10 using the uninstall program in windows 7. Everything went ok until I tried uninstal the B&R agent as I get failure saying do to a DLL in windows which it can not open that it can not be removed. Without removing this last part of B&R I can not reinstall the latest version. I have tried the abr-cleanup utility but does not seem to work for me. I am attaching the file that I get as error. I hope somebody can give me some clues in the right directions

In advance thanks for the help

Jack

To perform an uninstallation of all ABR products in one step you can use the included uninstaller app located at the following location:

Start -->Programs -->Acronis --> Uninstall Acronis Backup & Recovery 10
