How to install for a particular account instead of for all users?

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to install this software on a machine running Windows Server 2003 with Terminal Services. I want the application installed only for the administrator account. However, the standard installation defaults to "Install for all users of this machine" and does not provide an option for something like "Install for just this user". Is there a command line switch I can use to change the install mode?

In case it helps: I obtained Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Server for Windows via a download from the Acronis site. It consisted of a single executable file. When you run it, you can either begin the automated installation process or extract the separate components.

I haven't tried it yet, but can I install everything just for the administrator account if I extract the components and install them separately? If so, is there a preferred order of installation? Is there anything else I might need to know if I don't use the automated installation routine?

Update: I did try installing the components separately. The main application behaves the same way as it does during the automated install process. I still can't get it to install for just the administrator/current user.

Looks like I'll have to resort to group policy restrictions.

I accidentally selected the "install for just this user option". There seems to be no way of altering this to all users from within TIH. I have tried uninstalling TIH so that I may start over and select the correct option but no matter haw manny attempts I have made it just will not uninstal. The uninstal feature is just plain crap. Tha fact that posts refer to using special utilities and thrid party removal software adds testimony to this.
HOW DO I GET THIS OFF MY COMPUTER!!!

Hello all,

I would like to thank you for posting and I will certainly help you with resolving these issues.

Paul Pettit,

You can install the program for your administrator account in a couple of ways. If you are logged in as administrator, when running the executable installation package it will by default be installed for your administrator account.

When running the extracted .msi files, there are two options available. You can either install it for all users or install for current user, which will be your administrator if you are logged in as such.

You can also right click on the executable installation package and select - run as, where you can select your administrator account.

I can also recommend this article that shows how to install Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 from a command line.

This article talks about installing the Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 Agent.

Peter Salter,

I apologize for the inconvenience. There are two ways you can remove your Acronis True Image 2009 Home from your machine.

Please use this article for instructions to remove the program manually and from this article you can download the Acronis Clean-up utility.

For your own convenience I would also recommend checking out our True Image Home forum sub-section which deals with the Acronis True Image Home program exclusively, since this section of the forum is more dedicated for corporate Acronis Backup and Recover 10 program.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thank you
