How to recover files and data
I am new to Acronis and terribly SORRY I did not stick with Norton Ghost.
Can anyone pleeeeeeeeeeeez give me useful instructions on how to recover my files, data, ect. There are NO instructions included with the software. This is rediculous.
When I go through the recovery options, it runs in about 2 seconds and the log says "terminated by user". NOT.
Please help. Thanks.

Greetings. I found this item because I am puzzled about an aspect of the recovery process in True Image Home 9.
I often want to recover a single file, and I want the file restored without it's original path structure. For example, I wish to recover the file bert.xxx to the Scratch folder on my C: drive.
When I do that, and select the option to restore the file to a new location, and I specify the Scratch folder as the destination, the file is restored to the Scratch folder but with it's original path structure, e.g. C:/Documents and.../misc/personal/bert.xxx. I would like the file to simply appear in the Scratch folder, without any other path information. Is there a way to do this in version 9?
It would appear from step 4 above that it is possible in version 10.

Thank you very much for your post and I will definitely help you to answer this question.
The option that you are referring to is called - Restore absolute path. In later products, if it is checked, then the files is restored with original file paths, similar to what you are experiencing. If it is unchecked, then it will be put to the new location without the older file paths.
Unfortunately, this option is not available in True Image Home 9. However, I have a workaround for you. You can mount the backup file and then simply copy/paste the needed file to your folder. Please note that his workaround applies only to disks/partitions images.
To mount an image, please do the following:
1. Click on the Mount Image operation icon in the main program window.
2. Click Next.
3. Select the archive from the drives tree. If the archive is located in Acronis Secure Zone, select it to choose the archive at the next step.
4. Click Next.
5. If you selected an archive containing incremental images, Acronis True Image Home will suggest that you select one of the successive incremental images by its creation date/time. Thus, you can explore the partition state to a certain moment.
6. Click Next.
7. Select a partition to mount as a virtual disk. (Note that you cannot mount the entire disk.)
You can also select a letter to be assigned to the virtual disk from the Drive letter drop-down list. If you do not want to assign a letter to the virtual drive, select Do not assign.
8. Click Next.
9. Select whether you want to mount image in Read-only or Read/Write mode.
10. Click Next.
11. If you select Read/Write mode, the program assumes that the connected image will be modified, and creates an incremental archive file to capture the changes. It is strongly recommended that you list the forthcoming changes in the comment to this file.
12. The program displays a summary containing a single operation. Click Proceed to connect the selected partition image as a virtual disk.
13. After the image is connected, the program will run Windows Explorer, showing its contents. Now you can operate with files or folders as if they were located on a real disk.

Many thanks for your prompt reply and for the workaround. I assume that what you refer to as "mounting an image" is the same as "plugging an image" in True Image Home 9?

Thank you very for getting back to me and you are very welcome. I am not sure what you mean by "plugging an image", if I am not mistaken, that option is called Mounting an image.

Greeetings Anton...
Now I'm really curious. In the menus of my installation of True Image Home there is no item called "Mount....". It does appear in the documentation you referred me to.
I'm attaching a clip from the main (right side) Pick a Task menu that appears when I open True Image. As you can see there are items called "Plug an Image" and "Unplug an Image". This behaves exactly the same as the "Mount.." option, but I'm curious about the different wording.
Any ideas?

To eliminate any discrepancies between Acronis True Image 9 Home and the User Guide, I installed the latest build (3,854) of Acronis True Image 9 Home on my virtual machine, and checked the menu that is called - "Or Pick a tool". I have attached a screenshot to my post, it says mount image.
Can you please check the build number of your software? The icons look identical, I think, plug an image was used in an older build of Acronis True Image 9 Home and it means the same as mount image.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

The build number on my Acronis True Image 9 Home is 2323. Whoever made the decision to change "Plug" to "Mount" in later builds showed admirable good sense.

I too need some help with solid, step by step instructions with my data recovery problem. I am running Acronis True Image 10. Home ver 13.0.0.6053. My HD has to be reformated or replaced (with an exact same model as original). I have a boot disc and on my external HD I have good, complete backup images. I am very very reluctant to reformat or replace my HD and try to recover the entire works because I can't seem to get a straight forward set of instructions. Have I overlooked some documentation? I have done something like this in the past with GHOST but I remember the set of instructions was very clear. Where might I turn for some help? Thank you.

To GroverH, Thank you for the link to Accumulated Wisdom by Many! I will read these thoroughly before I attempt a system image (partition) recovery. I want to reformat my HD and hopefully get rid of two bad sectors. I will let the forum know when complete. Thank you.

After you perform the restore, then use chkdsk c: /r again and again check for disk errors. Acronis may have carried the bad sector flags back on the restore.
