How to recover Windows Server 2008 R2 to Virtual?

Thread needs solution

I need to get some test machines setup and currently I am getting this error?

Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Universal Restore skipped because the operating system that is being processed (Windows Server 2008 R2) is not supported by the target platform.

The VHD is created, I create and boot a Virtual machine, but get BSOD's with the famous 0x7b boot device error.

Is there a good way around this?

Hello Paul!

Thank you for finding time to open the thread regarding this issue. I entirely understand your concern and will be glad to shed the light to the situation.

The error you receive is actually refers to the Microsoft restrictions: Virtual PC doesn't support Windows 2008 R2. You can try to restore the image created with adding the drivers for this OS. For this I'd advise you to contact Microsoft Support - they should have all the required information.

I'd advise you to take a look at the AUR recovery Guide with the step-by-step screenshots, you may find it useful.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Ok, is there a timeline for when Acronis will look at changing this so we can convert using it?

Right now I am getting around it by using MS System Center VMM
